Na/GloPoWriMo 2026 ~ Day 5

Well, for today’s prompt challenge I started with this…

don’t you just hate it…

I can say without a second thought
I have never hated anything
your assumption sounds like lecturing
I thought you knew me; well I guess not

but let’s go there since it seems you forgot
it’s not in my nature to be such a thing
I can say without a second thought
I have never hated anything

I’m love, light and peace, hateful I’m not,
spare me your know-it-all blustering
I ha-, dislike it greatly, you think
I could hate, well that hurts me a lot
I can say without a second thought
I have never hated anything

…but I have to come clean…there is one pesky thing, or who rather, that irks my ire!!!

living rent-free in the gray

my insular cortex cannot insulate me
from that intrusive voice, those vile lies, you know who
before long my putamen disrupts my deep sleep
turns my prefrontal cortex gray matter to goo

to hate is not me, just don’t mention DJT
what’s a peace, freedom-loving, old hippy to do
my insular cortex cannot insulate me
from that intrusive voice, those vile lies, you know who

I have loved, loved, and loved ‘til I’m blue can’t you see
I am done playing nice, i am nobody’s fool
this regime’s got to go or democracy’s doomed
the cruel things he has done to us all makes me scream
my insular cortex cannot insulate me from that intrusive voice, those vile lies, you know who 😡

and then there’s this…I am having way too much fun with today’s challenge… does that make me a bad person? Don’t answer that! 🤪😳🤣

inedible weed

I abhor it, you know
loathe it, disdain it
find it totally disgusting
abominable, utterly repulsive
it makes me sick
ruins a perfectly good dish
makes it utterly distasteful
you know exactly that weed
I am talking about…
CILANTRO
but to say I hate it?
hate is not a strong enough
four-letter expletive
to describe something
as nauseatingly repugnant
as this so-called delicious green
that leaves a lingering foul taste behind
pass the guac, hold the…
I can’t even say it without
throwing up a little in my mouth

Today’s Glimmer…Realizing that even when life is coming up dandelions, it is a wonderful, very good thing. The roses will flaunt their ruddy faces soon enough.

Much love, peace, glimmers, and dandelion wishes to you!

day 332…a day delayed

News has been more ridiculous than usual as we watch the physical and cognitive decline of our self-proclaimed great leader. I have stopped saying it can’t get any worse, because, well, you know. But today’s (or I should say yesterday’s glimmer? (I did write most of this poem yesterday…we were just away wearing ugly sweaters and doing holiday schmoozing)…as I was saying…today’s glimmer is that maga folk are starting to wake up! I won’t gloat…or even say, “told you so” but I will write about it, because that’s what I do. 😊 who says the fall of democracy can’t be fun…well not fun exactly…but I do like a bit of sarcasm every now and then!

Much love, peace, and WOKE glimmers to you!

sycophant’s bawl

he’s been quite naked now for years
it’s true, the emperor’s insane
his court of dunces hail his name
with flattery most insincere

to anyone who sees, it’s clear,
the ugly truth, they have no shame
he’s been quite naked now for years
it’s true, the emperor’s insane

they sold their souls to profiteer
for promises of power, fame
but now they know who bears the blame
oh they were duped, fed lies and fear
he’s been quite naked now for years

btw…this poetry form is called the Rondel.

A French form consisting of 13 lines: two quatrains and a quintet, rhyming as follows: ABba abAB abbaA. The capital letters are the refrains, or repeats.
Schrödinger has the best seat in the house! Yes…Schrödinger exists, and is alive and well. 🥰

dressed in tears

dressed in tears

i dress myself in tears these days
not for me, i weep for others
orphaned children, childless mothers
victims of cruelty and hate

justice denied for those who wait
i feel their pain, those who suffer
i dress myself in tears these days
not for me, i weep for others

for every soul who’s led astray
hope one day we can recover
learn to care for one another
with compassion, kindness and grace
i dress myself in tears these days

Well I completely fell off the NaPoWriMo wagon this year! This poem is based on one of the prompts. I’ve been adding a line or two over the past week when i have the time. Along with my day job, I have been caring for a sick pup who requires a special home cooked diet (our other pups are on the diet as well to avoid food nabbing) and with two very large dogs (175lbs and 125lbs) and a small one (20lbs) I am cooking daily along with all the household chores, while my partner works a second part-time job to pay the medical bills for our Winston. we don’t know how long he will be with us but are doing what we can to make his life a good one. How could anyone say no to this face!
In case i didn’t mention it, this is a Rondel. Here are the rondel poetry form rules:
1. Poem consists of 13 lines in 3 stanzas
2. Rhyme scheme: ABba/abAB/abbaA (uppercase letters are refrains)
3. Usually 8 syllables per line

sleepless

there’s a firefly on my window
a golden dot strobing in the night
darkness, as he flutters out of sight
but for the faint, cloud-veiled moon-glow

can’t sleep, went to bed hours ago
closed my eyes hoping that I just might
there’s a firefly on my window
a golden dot strobing in the night

take a breath, give sleep another go
plump the pillow, turn off every light
restful sleep should not require a fight
morning will be here before we know
there’s a firefly on my window

A Rondel: ABba abAB abbaA.

The Greatest in the History of All Things Great, Greatness – NaPoWriMo/GloPoWriMo Challenge Day 16

The Greatest in the History of All Things Great, Greatness

We had the most beautiful piece of cake!
Everyone tells me it’s so, believe me,
except for fake news, they’re the enemy,
phony, the worst, agents of the deep state.

I always win bigly, losers I hate.
Mistakes? I don’t make them, never, not me.
We had the most beautiful piece of cake!
Everyone tells me it’s so, believe me.

I promise to make America great.
It’s going to be tremendous, you’ll see.
I alone, stable genius…covfefe…
loved by Vlad Putin, Kim Jong Il, and Xi.
We had the most beautiful piece of cake!

For NaPoWriMo/GloPoWriMo Challenge Day 16: write a poem of over-the-top compliments. Pick a person, place, or thing you love, and praise it in the most effusive way you can. Go for broke with metaphors, similes, and more.

Well, I had a bit…oh hell, I had a tremendous, stupendous time poking political fun today. I know of no other politician who is more well versed in over-the-top, extravagantly, effusive self-adulation and duplicity than President 45. I used a Rondel, a French form consisting of 13 lines: two quatrains and a quintet, rhyming as follows: ABba abAB abbaA. The capital letters are the refrains, or repeats.
