gloaming looms on the cusp of ebony
the scent of musk and rose buds fill my head
amaranth tendrils pierce through lace-trimmed trees

earthing, am i, whilst baring my soles
cool grass tickling, trembling in the breeze
cicadas’ shrill diminuendoes troll

For the Daily Terza Rima Stanza Challenge. As fortune would have it, while on a walk, I happened upon this young cicada fresh from its exuviae, having shed its former self. I think about how any layers I have shed over the years, and feel an affinity with the cicadas who sing with such intensity and verve.
