I will spare you the commentary I had started to write about what’s happening in the world. Suffice to say, it’s feeling less and less safe everywhere these days…unless you’ve been living under a rock or digesting too much Fox, you know.

I promised myself when this year started, I would look for glimmers everyday to keep me grounded.

Without further delay, please join me in welcoming our first returning hummingbird back from his long journey from Central America. He’s a handsome dude. And I admit his arrival was a surprise! He started to tweet loudly from the feeder stand outside my window until he got my attention, and then proceeded to glare at me. You see, I was planning to put feeders out this weekend. My bad! He was clearly not happy that I had not prepared for his return with the fanfare he deserves! Namely a smorgasbord of sweet water dispensers.

I stopped what I was doing…working on a spreadsheet…I needed a break anyway…to get feeders out. I hoped he would forgive my error and not move on to another feeder somewhere. He made me sweat for two days. That’ll teach me! And then this morning there he was. Hanging out on the perch, leisurely taking sips of nectar.

Thank you universe for today’s glimmer and reminder that we need to take care of one another.

Much love, peace and glimmers to you.

NaGloPoWriMo 6 April 2025 prompt: Today’s prompt (optional, as always) veers slightly away from our ekphrastic theme. To get started, pick a number between 1 and 10. Got your number? Okay! Now scroll down until you come to a chart. Find the row with your number. Then, write a poem describing the taste of the item in Column A, using the words that appear in that row in Column B and C. For bonus points, give your poem the title of the word that appears in Column A for your row, but don’t use that word in the poem itself. I chose line 7…Watermelon…Splash…Mocking. NaPoWriMo Earlybird Challenge ~ Glimmer day 89

three generations

my first portrait
hidden deep inside the babe
mother of my mother

~kat

There is a theory that the egg that became me (with a little help from my dad, of course) was carried inside my mother since all women are born with all the eggs they will have in their lifetime. Where it gets interesting is that, as your mother was developing in your grandmother’s womb, a part of you was there too. Having four daughters, three of whom have daughters stirs my imagination. To think that I once held the sparks of my granddaughters while I carried their mothers inside me.  Isn’t life a miraculous thing!

That said, hidden in the old photo above is a glimmer of me.

Much love, peace, and glimmers of promise to you!

NaGloPoWriMo 2025 Early Bird Challenge: try penning a portrait poem of your own. It can be a self-portrait, a portrait of someone well known to you, or even a poem inspired by an actual painted portrait.

day 86 (part 2) ah spring

the greening

beneath the mountain
nature sings her song of spring
breathing earth to life

~kat~

Today was a perfect spring day. The sun was shining. The sky blue with wisps of clouds. The hummingbirds are due back in about a week. And there is the sweetest warm breeze tossing the trees. I look forward to the leaves popping from the tree limbs. This year we had so many wind storms that there is nothing left on the forest floor. I’ve never seen things so blighted. But I do rest in the hope that nature will restore what winter swept away. When spring bursts to life it will fill me with joy. There is also joy in the anticipation; in the knowing that the seasons are ever faithful.

No matter what challenges may confront me, I try to remember these lessons from nature…the rising sun at dawn, its setting at dusk, the shape shifting moon of many faces, the stars in constellation fixed in place, the movement of the planets, the tides’ ebb and flow, the abundance of the harvest every year, and the new life that bursts onto the scene every spring. What a wonderful life this is. And how blessed we are to be alive to witness it.

I know, I know, the news…it was another shocking day of injustice and abuse of power by the miscreants in the US white house and the halls of congress…just as it will be tomorrow and the next day. I’m afraid that is our lot right now. I’m engaged in the opposition….and a safe place and helper when opportunities present themselves.

But the world…my world right here, right now is alive in anticipation of the fullness of spring. Today, that’s what I’m focusing on. It is after all, what truly matters. not to mention, it give me hope. ✨💚✨

Much love, peace and glimmers of spring to you!

Peace, Love, and Heart Glimmers to You!

day 72

full blood moon’s eve

you can’t eclipse her
deny her right to the light
and she will see red

~kat

There is a burst of feminine energy in the air. Later tonight, in the wee hours of tomorrow, the earth will block the moon from the sun. And well, I’m seeming an analogy here…😉

The earth is going to move between the sun and the moon tonight blocking the moon from sun’s light, but Luna will not fade into the darkness. Oh no, she will glow red showing the world that she is more than just a cold rock in the sky. She is a true reflection of the light. She is powerful. The tides ebb and swell in her full presence. She inspires artists and poets. She shares the sky with millions of stars, and gracefully allows them to shine. And all this is happening on the cusp of spring when new life is getting ready to burst! Sigh! Holding that thought here in the midst of these troubling times. (You might even want to reread those last few affirmations and insert yourself… I am more…I am a true reflection of the light…I am powerful…etc. you’ve got this!

Finally, I would be remiss if I failed to share today’s view from the bird feeder…more feminine energy in the air….a quintet of turkey hens (aka Jennies) were hanging out, not a Tom in sight. No doubt they were somewhere showing off, competing with each other. It’s that time of year you know.

In a world full of Tom’s, be a Jennie. Take time for tea and sweets and pleasant conversation. The world doesn’t need conquering! ✨💚✨

Peace, love, and full blood moon glimmers to you!
