No Words…Except… (A Cherita)

silence

but for the cacophony
of thoughts and perfidious prayers

feigned outrage fading into the abyss of
yesterday’s news; blood soaked hands of
cowards scrawling, “must build a wall…”

I titled this no words…but I am a poet, damn it, and words are the only thing I have to give to this troubled world. I rue the day when even the poets become silent. Peace my friends. Tell someone you love, that you do…love them.

Decisions Decisions ~A Cherita

a decision

should be an easy choice
between black or white, right or wrong

but black is grey and white is
crisp linen, honeymilk, winter orchard,
swiss coffee, and chantilly lace

Lunacy

there’s a green cheese moon
high above a flat earth…cows
and cats with fiddles

Congress in Session ~A Cherita

congress in session

a trio of cowbirds perch aloft, screaming
on skeletal limbs of a wintering elm

surveying the work of more diligent
nesters while scheming a plan
to evict them come spring

Monday Magnets

i don’t recall the dream
ending this way, with
me here alone and you
on the wind…the bitter
crush, my aching breasts
a childless mother, barely
a whisper from death, and
yet I should have known
you were meant to fly
