air on fire, steamy
blue sky, as the
universe melts hot,
ice into liquid, bleeding
into an ocean spilling over…
we awaken wet with
fever, frail of breath…

how bitter the blow
having trudged day after
long day beneath the
shadow of death only
to be crushed by hate
for having placed
their trust in a dream
