Sevenling: I have survived

This beauty has decided that this is her spot to hang out in the mornings and then later in the afternoon. It’s become a common practice. Traci says she is waiting for me to come outside. She listens intently when I greet her. What do you think I should name her? I think our relationship has progressed to the naming level. 🥰 and this, in case you’re wondering, is today’s glimmer!

Much love, peace, and glimmers to you! ~kat

And, of course, a poem. A Sevenling to be precise. I took the latest WP cue to look back at previous posts and happened upon the Sevenling. I believe I spent an entire month on this form. Not sure why I stopped. I kind of love this form.

As a refresher:

The elements of the Sevenling are:

1. a heptastich, a poem in 7 lines made up of 2 tercets followed by a single line. metered at the discretion of the poet.

2. unrhymed.

3. composed with 3 complimentary images in the first tercet and 3 parallel images in the second tercet. The end line is a juxtaposed summary of the 2 parallels, a sort of “punchline”.

4. the poem should be titled “Sevenling: (first few words of poem).

I had to chuckle at myself a bit. I took step number 4 literally back then. But I do t think the parentheses are needed in the title. Going forward I will be dropping these! 😄

Anyhow, here’s my take. I might stay here a while…as I mentioned, I am very fond of this form!

Sevenling: I have survived

I have survived
generational insanity,
abusive spouses, broken relationships

I have survived
wars, pandemics, civil unrest,
the age of Aquarius

survival is not to the fittest, but to the optimists, stubbornly hopeful

reflecting on the solstice

And a few glimmers…
A rare sighting in the bird garden. Squirrels rarely share the feeding bowl with chipmunks. Peace is possible my friends! 🥰

Much love, peace, and glimmers to you!

encounter with a stone sage

Meet Mr. Grumpy Face, Glimmer at Arms

I seem to be tripping over the oddest glimmers these days. This morning I happened upon this guy staring up at me from the mulch bed under in the hedges. I call him Mr Grumpy Face. He definitely looks like he’s been through it from the looks of that dent on his head. A far cry from my typical harvest of heart-shaped rocks. But he was on a mission I think.

Seeing him in all his grumpiness, made me smile. And then reminded me that I have not been my smiley self these days. Carrying the weight of the world will do that to you. At that moment it was like looking into a mirror. It reminded me that I have not taken time to unload and recharge as much as I should.

You might be thinking, you got all that from an odd little rock? I did indeed, you know, and I find that odd random things have plenty to say if we’re paying attention. I’m so glad I was looking down when I was…so glad this sage caught my eye. In my book that is the essence of a proper glimmer. Thank you Mr. Grumpy face!

Much love, peace, and odd glimmers to you! And don’t forget to smile. 😊

sweet slumber

Today’s glimmer is a few moments of zen…I drift off to sleep to this beautiful sound every night. Gabby, who learned to be a real dog after being abandoned to be euthanized with her puppies at a kill shelter…saved by a rescue team who graciously entrusted her to our care..who sleeps lustily at the foot of my bed, belly full from supper, fearing nothing…snoring! she is my glimmer on dark nights! ~ Much love, peace, and glimmers to you ~ kat 💚✨✨✨💚

sweet slumber

there is something oh
so calming about the soft
snoring of a dog
it is safety, and freedom
dreams of squirrels to be chased

Kindness

What are you passionate about?

Kindness
Is
Not
Defeat.
Never

Smile
Softheartedly

~kat

My simple acrostic poem in answer to today’s daily WP prompt…my answer…kindness. I am dipping my toe back into the inkwell. I know it’s been a while. Suffice to say that planning and pulling off a surprise milestone party that you needed to know about because your lovely partner who planned the whole thing is wheelchair bound and generally unable to pull the final prep off without assistance, is exhausting! I said it a decade or so ago…getting old is not for sissies! I had NO clue back then…add to that the added stress of keeping the ruse and acting surprised…and the biggest part…the reality…the gravity of realizing that people my age are dropping like flies and the fact that I’m still here must mean something. Well I’ve spent long enough staring at my naval and I plan to get back on the saddle…though it takes a few tries and a stepladder these days. The muse has graciously let me recharge, and soak in every glimmer and wonder. I’ve saved them to share with you all. I do hope you’re doing well. It’s hard not to freak out at the state of the world ala a rapidly imploding trump. But there is encouragement to be found as the sleepy lemmings begin waking up from their stupor.

Be kind to yourself and to others my friends, and most importantly look for the daily glimmers to sustain you!

Much love, peace, and glimmers to you. Here’s mine for today. I have started noticing sunrises these days…new beginnings seems to be the theme. 🥰
