yippee! it’s spring!

yippee! it’s spring!

when fleas make dogs itch
and pollen makes people sneeze
welcome to bloomin’ springtime

days of rain, incessant raining
spring is sprouting and i’m annoyed,
birdsong, bee-buzz, peepers, the noise
muddy mess, yes, i’m complaining
missing sleep from daylight saving
a favorite season for some folk
i’m not impressed and that’s no joke
wake me up when summer’s over
i’m averse to heat and clover
ignore me as i bloat and choke!

no peace

no peace

people were asleep
when tragedy erupted
no rest to be found

for the woke, yet another cause
to engage the masses, stir hearts
invite others to do their part
the irony of it not lost
on those who paid the heavy cost
misfortune used by profiteers
will fill their pockets spreading fear
so champions with motives pure
are swallowed in the noise, obscured
the reason for their angst, not clear

let them take the streets
break out the crazies near and far
to disturb the peace

off the edge

off the edge

the earth is not flat
opinion can’t make it so
life, death, and taxes

the sun rises and the sun sets
the moon’s face cycles new to full
we’re all bound by gravity’s pull
the truth is absolute and yet

it’s easy to forget and let
emotions cloud our fickle minds
you know it happens all the time
we pick and choose what to believe
it makes us easy to deceive
like silly sheep we follow blind

This week’s combo challenge inspired by Ronovan Writes
Weekly Haiku Poetry Challenge, Prompt Words LIFE & VIEW
(OPINION) and Décima Poetry Challenge, Prompt Word BLIND
- C-Line Rhyme.

A Décima is a ten line poem, eight syllables each line in the
rhyme scheme: abbaaccddc. This week’s prompt word must
be used at the end of one of the C lines with the other C lines
rhyming.

only one

only one

in the end there is only one
left standing in the widening breach
to mend our brokenness, to reach
out, lead, to show us how it’s done
by example, in compassion
only one, though some may cast doubt
one will be raised up, one cast out
just like the seasons come and go
every four years change comes, you know
democracy, where each vote counts

when chaos lingers
we trust our higher angels
to restore balance

and the count continues…

I don’t know who came up with this meme, but it’s been making the rounds. I think it’s brilliant. One caption said, “This is what we know so far.” Yep.

and the count continues…

there seems to be no end in sight
conspirators wait at the gate
provoked by lies, aroused by hate
sycophants brace for one last fight
while others try to do what’s right
we wait, we angst, we bite our nails,
holding our breath, we can’t exhale
but it will all be over soon
we’ll soon be rid of this buffoon
with any luck he’ll land in jail

the cold air is thin
naked tree limbs poke the sky
leaves fall letting go
