Monday with the Muse

some things
go without saying, but
we should say them
anyway, even if no one
is listening…
things like, ‘I love you’

Magnetic Poetry Love Kit

November Naani #18-19

the moon is waxing
gibbous, luminous
this mid-autumn night
clouds warm and golden

windows glow below
lay them down, down
to sleep, may their souls
gently keep until the dawn

Missed yesterday, so today you get a two-fer! I almost wrote about that dragon up there. Cool sky this evening in my neighborhood! 😊

Manic Monday’s Three-Way Prompt – Heart

don’t expect too much
might be best to forget
I’ve changed, full of doubt
my heart may be lost

once, I did believe in love
swept off my feet, the wind
left me drowning in pain
it changed me

time has changed me
I don’t trust
it’s the price I pay for
my heart never to be found

~kat

Missed last week’s Manic Monday’s Three-Way Prompt. Had a hard time finding the lyrics to last week’s song. And you know how I love to do “found poetry”, aka blackout poetry with this prompt. At any rate, this week we have a photo (enhanced a bit by me) above, a word: Heart, and a song: “My Poor Old Heart”, written by Donna Hughes and performed by Alison Krauss & Union Station.

“My Poor Old Heart”

Don’t expect too much from my poor old heart,
You can blame me unforgiven for my scars,
you might just be the best that I can find,
but I can’t seem to forget the tears I’ve cried,
I don’t know that I will ever trust again,
it’s a price I must pay for all my sins,
Time has changed me and left me full of doubt,
and my heart may be lost never to be found,

Once upon a time I did believe,
in my true love that swept me off my feet,
the wind of change swept him away,
and left me drowning in my own pain
I don’t know that I will ever love again,
it‘s a price that I must pay for all my sins,
time has changed me and left me full of doubt,
and my heart may be lost never to be found,
I don’t know that I will ever love again,
it’s the price that I must pay for all my sins,

time has changed me and left me full of doubt,
I don’t know that I will ever trust again,
it’s the price I must pay for all my sins,
time has changed me and left me full of doubt,
and my heart may be lost never to be found.

I don’t know that I will ever trust again,

Sunday’s Week in ReVerse – 18 November 2018

This morning my thoughts are with those who have lost their homes and with the families whose loved ones are still missing in California. Such a tragedy. It will take years for many to recover. Life is fragile…and resilient.

Tragedy, heartache, loss are inevitable in this life. But that’s why we have each other. I normally pour my thoughts out on Sundays. Not today. The reverse poem below is pretty perfect. I’ll leave you with that…and this thought. Kindness matters.

Sunday’s Week in ReVerse – 18 November 2018

change comes by going there,
there is a voice, quiet
What’s the world coming to?
rainy days and bad hair
it’s between the lines, the truest words dwell
it’s time to wake up
roses still smell sweet
we remember, snapshots
its sweetness
only bits of dreams
listen to your heart
there’s more to life…
on the wings of kindness

~kat

A ReVerse poem is a summary poem with a single line lifted from each entry of a collection of work over a particular timeframe and re-penned in chronological order as a new poem. Unlike a collaborative poem, the ReVerse features the words of one writer, providing a glimpse into their thoughts over time. I use it as a review of the previous week.

November Naani #17

a caravan of refugees
treks a thousand miles
on the wings of kindness,
a new life waiting

~kat

When I’m not working, or writing, or taking care of my menagerie of rescue pups and kitties, I sometimes get the honor of becoming part of a caravan of kindness, transporting abandoned animals from shelters to their loving forever homes.

This weekend we have Sweetie and her seven puppies on deck. Our leg of the trip is the halfway mark of a nearly 1300 mile journey over 3 days for these beautiful souls. I am reminded that how we treat the outcasts, the refugees, the least among us, says a lot about our hearts. At least for today, kindness, in the hearts of several dozen people is alive and well. Doing my part to add a little kindness to this troubled world of ours. Peace and puppy breath! ❤️
