Manic Monday’s Three-Way Prompt – Heart

don’t expect too much
might be best to forget
I’ve changed, full of doubt
my heart may be lost

once, I did believe in love
swept off my feet, the wind
left me drowning in pain
it changed me

time has changed me
I don’t trust
it’s the price I pay for
my heart never to be found

Missed last week’s Manic Monday’s Three-Way Prompt. Had a hard time finding the lyrics to last week’s song. And you know how I love to do “found poetry”, aka blackout poetry with this prompt. At any rate, this week we have a photo (enhanced a bit by me) above, a word: Heart, and a song: “My Poor Old Heart”, written by Donna Hughes and performed by Alison Krauss & Union Station.

“My Poor Old Heart”

Don’t expect too much from my poor old heart,
You can blame me unforgiven for my scars,
you might just be the best that I can find,
but I can’t seem to forget the tears I’ve cried,
I don’t know that I will ever trust again,
it’s a price I must pay for all my sins,
Time has changed me and left me full of doubt,
and my heart may be lost never to be found,

Once upon a time I did believe,
in my true love that swept me off my feet,
the wind of change swept him away,
and left me drowning in my own pain
I don’t know that I will ever love again,
it‘s a price that I must pay for all my sins,
time has changed me and left me full of doubt,
and my heart may be lost never to be found,
I don’t know that I will ever love again,
it’s the price that I must pay for all my sins,

time has changed me and left me full of doubt,
I don’t know that I will ever trust again,
it’s the price I must pay for all my sins,
time has changed me and left me full of doubt,
and my heart may be lost never to be found.

I don’t know that I will ever trust again,

Writer(s): Donna Hughes
