I do not need cake or
champagne to celebrate the years
bits of magic dazzle me just fine
things like warm smiles, long kisses,
poetry, baby’s breath, belly laughs,
blue skies, and breezy mornings
are all I need to fill my cup

A Prayer for Exiles
captives mourn
in exile here
wisdom teaches us
to rescue them,
give them a safe abode
bright morning,
bring us comfort
from the night and
light to bind the hearts
of all in peace.

Today’s Manic Monday Three-Way Prompt is based on the Word: Rejoice, the Photo: (a portion of the original) above and the Song: Oh Come, Oh Come Emanuel (lyrics below). When I think of God/Emanuel coming, I think about the innocents that need him most. At least for today, there are many who are still suffering. And so I decided a prayer would do for today’s Manic Monday. I’m not sure why my thoughts and heart went in an opposite direction with today’s prompt. It’s not exactly an example of rejoicing. But perhaps it’s a means to an end. Peace, kindness and love to you.
O come, O come, Immanuel,
and ransom captive(s) Israel
that mourns in lonely exile here
until the Son of God appear.
Refrain:
Rejoice! Rejoice! Immanuel
shall come to you, O Israel.
2 O come, O Wisdom from
on high,
who ordered all things mightily;
to us the path of knowledge show
and teach us in its ways to go.
Refrain
3 O come, O come, great Lord of might,
who to your tribes on Sinai’s height
in ancient times did give the law
in cloud and majesty and awe. Refrain
4 O come, O Branch of Jesse’s stem,
unto yourown and rescue them!
From depths of hell your people save,
and give them victory o’er the grave.
Refrain
5 O come, O Key of David, come
and open wide ourheavenly home.
Make safe for us the heavenward road
and bar the way to death’s abode.
Refrain
6 O come, O Bright and Morning Star,
and bring us comfort from afar!
Dispel the shadows of the night
and turn our darkness into light.
Refrain (to)
7 O come, O King of nations, bind
in one the hearts of all mankind.
Bid all our sad divisions cease (in)
and be yourself our King of Peace.
Refrain
Psalter Hymnal (Gray)

weekends are for taking naps
movie marathons and snacks
window shopping, playing apps
Monday comes to soon

It takes work to be an optimist. Especially during the dark months of winter. We light candles, hang twinkling lights, decorate our homes, bake sweets, gather together, give gifts, sing songs. With all this gaiety and joy surrounding us, it’s hard to imagine anyone being sad. But so many people are this time of year.
We expect so much of ourselves and others. Of course this just sets us up for disappointment. And we are entirely too hard on ourselves, in my humble opinion of course. Alright, I’ll be honest with you, I tend to be too hard on myself.
I found a heart shaped lump of snow this week. (True story) It warmed my heart. It made me realize that the most important thing in this world is kindness and yes, love. Not just loving others and being loved. As wonderful as that is, it’s loving oneself that makes all the difference. It’s realizing that I am worthy to be loved, most of all by myself. That little lump of snow reminded me. And I hope you realize it about yourself, too. And don’t be so hard on yourself (I’m saying this to myself most of all). May you find the light that shines inside of you this season of long nights. Have a great week.
clinging to petals, frozen,
dawning amber, silent morn
Ya neva’ know what ya’ might find in its belly
things that stir my soul
nose to the grind stone
soft snores, puppy breath
you’ve signed away every drop
reminding me that love’s everywhere

A ReVerse poem is a summary poem with a single line lifted from each entry of a collection of work over a particular timeframe and re-penned in chronological order as a new poem. Unlike a collaborative poem, the ReVerse features the words of one writer, providing a glimpse into their thoughts over time. I use it as a review of the previous week.

how many snowflakes does a
heart make, to catch my eye this
wintry night, reminding me
that love’s everywhere

It is a known fact to anyone who knows me that if there is a scattering of rocks, I can be found in the middle of them searching for the heart shaped ones. Over the years I have found hundreds of them. And I have also been known to give them away in hopes to brighten someone’s day. These are no ordinary rocks you see. They’ve been battered and chiseled, losing parts of themselves to become that familar shape, a heart, a symbol of love. I found my first one when I needed it most. I’ll never forget how it made me feel. I’ll never forget how I felt when I gave that precious lump of limestone away to someone who needed it more than me. I find them everywhere now. Heart shaped rocks, seashells, leaves, flower petals, and sometimes, clumps of snow. It helps me to remember what matters most. It reminds me I’m never alone. Love is everywhere you know. Peace to you ❤️
