Tanka Tuesday Trio

A Shadorma (3/5/3/3/7/5) for Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge. Today’s Prompt: Poet’s Choice, following Colleen’s suggestion to give thanks this December as the year draws to an end.

in the end
compassion prevailed
but only
by a thread
history in the making’s
ours for the taking

Also tried a Gogyohka. Each line of a Gogyohka comprises one phrase with a line-break after each phrase or breath.

do not linger
in the minds
of daydreamers
roused by the light

And finally a Tanka. 57577

thank you dear strangers
for caring about others
for wearing a mask
to all unlikely heroes
we see you; we won’t forget

December Dodoitsu #31

with a kiss we bid adieu
to another year, now spent,
pour the bubbly, raise your flutes,
sing for auld lang syne

And it’s a wrap! 2018 is ticking to a close (thank goodness!) and this month’s exploration of the poetry form called a Dodoitsu. I’m also thanking goodness for that too. It’s an ok form as forms go, but I think I’ve written enough dodoitsus to last a lifetime! Well, 31 to be exact. Like I said! 🤪)

Wishing you and those you love a bright and happy new year filled with peace, happiness, good health and prosperity. 2019…ready or not, here we come! 😊

December Dodoitsu #30

trilling songbirds greet the dawn
on this balmy winter’s day
bitter chill’s on holiday
lovely, too soon spring

December Dodoitsu #29

to feel butterfly flutters
breathless, while catching a glimpse
when they’re not looking, we live
for moments like this

December Dodoitsu #28

Counting the Ways

clearing my windshield at dawn
coffee for two, fixing things,
you don’t have to say a word
or three, I hear you
