Story behind the headline…Meanwhile in the hollow (not a typo…they are not hallowed) chambers of US congress, trumps minions seeking to discredit the FBI and ultimately Robert Mueller’s investigation, in this sham of a hearing. Here’s a snippet…watch it and weep.

Story behind today’s headlines…NATO was a total embarrassment. But to hear the orange blimp it was a yuge success with him single-handedly doing what no other US president before him was able to do…making the European nations to pay up…um…except, it was a lie as pointed out by President Macron whose press briefing immediately followed. No matter, he is on to subject his vile presence on another allied front, the UK…so sorry. Understandably expats from the US are advised to lay low by the US Embassy. Good advice. The shit is sure to be flying…right up there with baby blimp…well played UK, well played.

Dear Mr. Rogers

Some of my friends are a-buzz over the new documentary, “Won’t You Be My Neighbor”. I thought about the letter I wrote back on November 7, 2017, when things started to get really scary in our government and in our neighborhoods. It was a few months after Charlottesville. And the state where I live was voting for a new governor. So, I wrote this letter to Mr. Rogers and asked him if there was any way he could come back to help us find our way back to kindness and civility. On November 27, 2017, the Hollywood Reporter reported that Focus Features had acquired worldwide rights to film the documentary. It was realeased in theaters in June 2018…and I just have to ask, do you believe in miracles? Because I’m inclined to believe this might be one. Not that my letter had anything to do with this film coming out now when we need it more than ever…but then again, the little kid in me thinks I owe Mr. Rogers a thank you letter. I kinda knew, and said as much, that if anyone could figure out a way to come back to help us, he could. Here we are, and here he is, on the big screen, this time. Thank you Mr. Rogers. I knew you wouldn’t let us go through this alone.

mr rogers Fred McFeeley Rogers – March 20, 1928 – February 27, 2003

Dear Mr. Rogers,

I’m sorry to interrupt your eternal bliss. I’m sure you are resting peacefully in your own beautiful corner of heaven enjoying the rewards of your stellar time on earth. Don’t get me wrong, you deserve it, but we need you!

Our neighborhoods are not beautiful right now. People are afraid to come out, locking their doors and shuttering their windows. They’re talking about building walls and they’re burning down bridges. I’ve witnessed that with my own…

“Guys, c’mon. Let me out!” Roger begged.

“I say we leave him here all night,” said Joe. “That’ll teach him for ruining the party by scaring everyone with that Main Street Slasher story.”

“Yeah, stupid story. Leave him.” Doug agreed, “See ya later!”

“Guuuys…!!!”

Day drifted into night.

“I was just trying to warn everyone.” Roger lamented. “No one should be out after dark. They’ll see that I was telling the truth when the news reports another murder. They’ll see.”

“See what?” a raspy voice cackled from behind. “Would you like me to set you free?”

just for sport, midst chaos, a diversion,
pour la France, la victoire a un goût sucré
goaled advance toward world domination

while allies deal with Vlad’s dim protege
a baby blimp, above the palace, looms
vain, indecorous trumping underway

A twofer today…so much news…so little space. How could I not include France’s victory over Belgium, advancing them to the final challenge for the World Cup. Bravo!

But that is not the only world news. This is definitely not Belgium’s week…first losing the semifinal match with France and now hosting the NATO summit; having to contend with Trump’s vile, divisive bloviating. I have to say it, though I’m sure it is of little consolation to our allies…I didn’t vote for Trump…and it bears reminding that he did in fact LOSE the popular vote in 2016. Our broken system launched him into the oval despite our best attempt to thwart his rise to power. Sorry… we are (most of us) so embarrassed!

Thanks again Jane for this daily poem prompting.
