day 334

Do you ever see wild animals?

wild animals

I see animals
wander by everyday
they don’t know they’re wild

but I am certain
that they must find humans strange
and most dangerous

who can really say
what is wild and what is not
when men kill for sport

A trio of haiku in response to the WordPress daily prompt question. I heard a report today detailing the torture happening in my country to people who have been disappeared for being assumed to be illegal. There’s a morbid irony to what is happening. Our immature, unqualified leaders are quick to defend their abhorrent actions as justified. Their cruelty is warranted “To protect the people of our nation”, so they say. How easy it is for cowards and frauds to blow unarmed boats to smithereens leaving no witnesses, and worst of all, providing no record of the crimes that allegedly doomed the victims. How easy it is to deny heath care to millions and health services to women, leaving them to die from pregnancy complications. To separate children from parents whose only crime was believing that our country might provide a better life for them if they could just get here. How easy it is for our so-called leaders to plan lavish ballrooms and hold massive banquets flaunting their gluttony while slashing food aid to the poor.

When I considered today’s prompt question I thought about the animals that live just outside my door here at the wood’s edge. Songbirds, squirrels, raccoons, turtles, snakes, deer, owls, hawks, crows, ravens, opossums, turkeys, coyotes, black bear…on any given day it is not unusual to see several of these “wild” animals. I don’t consider them wild. They are living their best lives, doing what they do, living in harmony with the natural ecosystem, contributing to its continuity.

The wild beings that I most fear are the maga maniacs who live down the road, and who would like to see me banished from their world for being different or other. Or the ice agents lurking in the shadows scoping out their next victims. Do I see wild animals? Every time I venture away from home.

We could learn from the natural world how to coexist with each other. Hatred and cruelty is a choice just as kindness and compassion is.

much love, peace, and glimmers to you. Stay safe my friends.

I can’t possibly leave you without a glimmer…there were a few. But this is one of my favorites. I didn’t happen to get a photo today, but I was looking back through my photos and remembered capturing this sweet baby. She visits me every day.

day 333 snow day

Snow in the foothills. December 2025
snow day musings

1-
snow falls soft
blanketing the ground
sounds on mute

2-
soup in the stockpot
fire crackling in the hearth
sheltering in grace

3-
winter trees
beautiful in white
frost and lace

much love, peace, and gentle glimmers to you! ❄️❄️❄️✨✨✨💚💚💚✨✨✨❄️❄️❄️

day 331

a snapshot in time

clouds parted on night three, the super moon in view
barely capturing her magnificence, a faded photograph
memories capture moments like these more clearly

~kat

The clouds finally moved on and I went outside to take a quick photo. There was fog hovering low, muting my view of the moon behind the trees.

I could have tried for more photos, but the most important thing is that I did see it. I had been so disappointed a few days ago when the full moon was at peak. Fortunately she maintained her brilliance long enough to give me a glimpse of this once every 17 year Super Moon event.

I may not be here when this moon comes back into view. The memories of seeing that big bright moon in the sky on this night will carry through the rest of my days. and who knows…I just might be around next time.

This sweet life is short. If we’re fortunate enough we may experience 80 or so springs, summers, autumns, and winters. That’s not a lot when you think about it. If the fates are kind we will know love, family, friends, and the myriad emotions that color a lifetime of experiences. A photograph barely captures it. But memories are timeless treasures. I’m happy to have witnessed the super moon of December 2025. It’s been a good night.

Much love, peace, and super moon glimmers to you!

day 330 ~ first snow

morning hush
.
dawn
dressed in winter
white
morning sounds muted
crystalline ice shards tap my bare skin
my lungs
fill with crisp air
layers of snow crunch
underfoot
full cold moon…first snow

~kat | 4 December 2025

Well…as promised, my disappointment in missing the full cold super moon was assuaged by a beautiful sight this morning! First snowfall of the season. It is all I hoped for. Enjoy the photos. Today’s glimmers. I hope you are safe, well, and warm wherever you are.

Much love, peace, kindness, and glimmers to you.

day 329

moon blushed night
.
last
view this lifetime
veiled
behind snow-gray clouds…
she’ll re-emerge in seventeen years
I doubt
I’ll be here, but tonight
the air feels cool,
electric,
she moves me unseen

~kat

I was looking forward to seeing the last full super moon of 2025 tonight. As the fates would have it, clouds have hovered low most of the day. Tonight’s weather forecast is calling for the first snow of the season. This is also something I look forward to. If the snow actually does come, you know I will have first snow snapshots to share…Friday’s glimmers!

But what makes missing this particular full moon so special is that the sky position and view are something that we experience only once every 17 years. Given my advanced age, it is unlikely that I will be here to see it next time.

It got me thinking about other spectacles, events, and milestones I’ve witnessed over the years of this short life. Some may be the last time I’m experiencing them without realizing it. It makes me appreciate those moments that take my breath away…those cherished moments seared into my memory. How beautiful this life is. And how short!

Much love, peace and glimmers to you. Hold every glimmer close. You never know if it will be the last.
