day 163

the air

I breathe…
air infused with light
flora refreshed
remnants of creation
lingering, of birds in flight,
deer folk, of forest friends
great and small, honeybees,
of neighbors two doors down
bits of living cells that ride the wind
lung to lung, I inhale the universe in,
exhale myself into the world
we are not so different as some
would like us to believe…
we are one, in harmony
with our mother, Earth
who sustains us
and calls us to love
with every breath

Much love, peace, healing, and glimmers to you!

Glimmers from this morning…snapshots of our big beautiful rubber tree from last year that didn’t make it through this past winter due to a series of unfortunate events.

This spring, from its wasted rootball emerged this lovely offshoot that is thriving.

It is a clear reminder to me that even when all seems lost, hope is not far away. Sometimes it may be just below the surface. But it is there waiting to shine. It’s a call for patience and perseverance. A call to hold fast, to never give up. Let the light within you that is hidden, burst forth and shine.

Much love, peace, and glimmers to you!

day 162 ~ a big glimmer today!

The US is finally waking up. The map below is a representation of over 2000 events scheduled nationwide. It’s a beautiful thing! This gives me hope. This brightens my day and lifts my heart!

woke is an action verb
it’s a four-letter word
it’s a charge that demands unrest
this day silenced voices shall be heard
defending democracy…Democracy…a proper noun

much love, peace, and woke glimmers to you!

Today’s poem a gogyohka…

Five rules of Gogyohka by Enta Kusakabe (1983).

  • Gogyohka is a new form of short poem that is based on the ancient Japanese Tanka and Kodai kayo.
  • Gogyohka has five lines, but exceptionally may have four or six.
  • Each line of Gogyohka consists of one phrase with a line-break after each phrase or breath.
  • Gogyohka has no restraint on numbers of words or syllables.
  • The theme of Gogyohka is unrestricted.

day 161

a magnetic poem ~ The Poet’s Kit

my heart remembers
it like it was
before the lies
before we were broken
from the ocean’s rhythmic dance
to the delicious slow kiss of
a cool breeze’s embrace
there is joy and peace

~kat

Today’s glimmer is a day late…I was a bit overwhelmed with reentry into work after a daunting two and half day travel schedule.

After trying for hours to muster the words while fighting sleep, I gave in and picked up this morning with a little help from the online magnets. I did manage to enjoy last evening breeze as the sun set. There is much I could say about the tidal turn of our country and the chaos that is happening., but I encourage you to remember what life was like before uncertainty and fear took hold.

If you are fortunate to live by the ocean, get yourself to the shore and let the sound of waves lull you to calmness and peace…that’s your glimmer!

If you, like me, far from the water’s edge, I invite you to go outside and give yourself to be ravaged by the breeze. It needn’t be a brisk breeze…just the slightest whisper will do. That’s your glimmer.

Tomorrow we march, tomorrow we advocate, but for today may the natural world hold and keep you, and help you remember who you are and how it was not too long ago…

Much love, peace, and glimmers to you!

day 160

a perfect late spring sunset

cool mist settles at
dusk, the amber sun sinks low,
sweetness fills the air
as a phoebe feeds nestlings
and a doe strolls, fawn in tow

~kat

Sometimes days are just perfect. Today was one of those days. Got some positive news at work, and happened upon several new little families. The woods were bursting with life events while we were away. A phoebe family hatched their brood, and several deer had young. I saw several doe with young while driving to the store. A set of twin fawns, and two singletons with their doting mamas. This evening I was visited by one of the does that frequents my feeders. She watched me from the brush for several minutes before deciding I was safe. I was trusted to meet her fawn. And this time I did happen to have my phone on me and caught my visitors in photos. I hope this post finds you well. Enjoy the glimmers below. I’m such a sucker for a babies of any species!

Much love, peace, and glimmers to you!

day 159

not lost

off the preplanned path
a detour may reveal
the wondrous unknown

~kat

I depend heavily on my car’s GPS to get me to my destinations. Most of the time I get where I am going with no issue. Other times, like today, the system has a hiccup. I knew that I needed to head north to reach the final part of the route, but the determined voice from my dashboard insisted I go south.

I went north, which sent the computer into a bossy tirade. She, ( I have mine set with a female voice with a British accent ) demanded I make a U-turn and head south at the next 7 crossroads. And I kept ignoring her until the GPS realized I was right, recalibrated itself and finally got back on track. As we neared the final leg of the trip, I got an important phone call. I missed my exit.

I was happy this time to be admonished by that familiar voice and ready to comply. There was an exit in four and a half miles, but as I would discover no reentry ramp. I refused to concede that I was lost. Eventually GPS directed me to take a scenic route…a narrow county road that weaved past farms and deeper into a tree-lined road. I hoped at least this time she wasn’t confusing her north from her south! Retracing 5 miles in unfamiliar places can be unsettling, but I was reassured when my destination icon appeared on the screen as we moved closer and closer.

As I emerged from the woods I found myself entering the main road of my daughter’s subdivision, just one block away from her house! You might think at this point in my story I heaved a huge sigh of relief. I didn’t. Not then. What took my breath away and caused me to pause…to breathe, was back amidst the trees. It was so beautiful! I took a photo with the intention of sharing it with you.

Wrong turns, detours, resets, and trusting one’s gut can sometimes develop into something wonderful. Next time you find yourself off the path, don’t jump to the “L” word (as in “lost”) too quickly. Take a breath and give the universe a moment to show you where you are, and what you could have missed by following directions to the letter. You might be pleasantly surprised, like I was today.

Much love, peace, and glimmers to you. And happy travels to you! ✨✨✨💚💚💚✨✨✨
