day 80 ~ under the weather

spring crud – a true tale

there once was an old gal who rarely got sick
except for mid-season, she’d come down with ick
the pollen in spring, and in autumn, the hay
had her sniffling, coughing, and sneezing all day
a spirit-laced toddy always fixed her up quick!

Why do we call it under the weather? Because I think I might be. But I don’t throw idioms around lightly so I headed to google.

Turns out it’s a nautical term from the 1800’s used when sailors were feeling seasick or ill. They would head below the weather deck to recuperate. Some people who want to debate it’s origins counter that we are, all of us, every day and night, under the sky so in fact, we all are under the weather. Silly history deniers! I like history. The historical source of this phrase makes perfect sense! When sailors on old ships headed into stormy weather, no doubt it was a common thing to feel a little ill. Or Under the weather as I believe they most probably said…it’s a gem of an idiom.

We’re dealing with stormy seas here in 2025 aren’t we? You knew I’d figure out a way to relate what was to what is, didn’t you? Haha! Well I won’t bore you with my random thoughts, because I am currently down with a bit of seasonal allergy ick. And yes I did fix myself a nice hot toddy to sooth my head!

Everyone needs to go below deck to recuperate now and again. But to get the ship back on course toward solid ground, once we’ve found our center, we need to head back up to face the storm. Yep…I couldn’t resist! With that I am going to sign off for now, sip my spiked elixir and hopefully sleep off this pollen sludge. Tomorrow is another day!

Peace, Love and Glimmers of wellness to you!

BTW…today’s poetry form is a limerick! ✨💚✨

day 79

ode to freedom
to symbols of goodness
how special you were
then smooth operators in suits
took power from the people…
it was great for a while

Tried a new Magnetic Poetry Kit…the Mustache. It’s pretty much a collection of the words you might expect to find in a mustache category. Our country reeks of excessive, aggressive testosterone these days. No offense at all intended toward the gentlemanly men in the world. But hardness and meanness, bullish behavior is celebrated these days. How sad it makes me feel to have to witness this in my lifetime. And how I mourn for my children’s children who are inheriting this disaster.

After work today I walked outside to get some fresh air and soak in the last rays of sunlight. To the west the sun burned bright and golden just above the horizon. To the east storm clouds hung over the budding trees along my driveway. Random raindrops dotted the ground and the wind whistled through the treetops. I needed that glimmer. My day was long and challenging and what little news I caught was not good. But how grateful I am to have lived another day, and to be blessed with such a beautiful sight at day’s end. Grab your glimmers wherever, whenever you can. It is like manna from heaven!

Peace, Love, and Glimmers to you!

day 78

a thousand deaths

death moans lazily
from the edge, as shadows
grow long…another day
fading to black while we
sleep, dreaming, under
a moonlit sky

~kat

It occurs to me that i practice every night for my final journey from this life. I close my eyes and drift off to sleep trusting in the dawn. But I am not promised the dawn. All the more reason to rejoice when it comes and I am given another day to live. Tonight’s sunset was a brilliant display of golden and red hues bouncing off wisps of clouds. If it were to be my last, if dawn never comes, I am grateful that I stopped a moment to breathe, to take it all in. Should dawn greet me tomorrow, I shall rise knowing that a new day is a gift. A reminder to myself to live it fully.

Peace, Love, and Glimmers to You! (If you’re reading this, I am so grateful that you are here and we can share this moment together!)

day 77 ~ another piece of pi

mother of exiles
.
she
has faced many trials
here
in the land of opportunity
once upon a time she stood as a beacon
until now
as a malevolent wave sweeps across
a broken nation under siege
shuttering the gates
liberty mourns for her children

A day away from the news and so much happened… just one day. It’s insane. But even if I do write my angst in poetry, I would be remiss if I brushed off the fabulous show from this morning. The turkeys are very restless. It’s spring after all! A couple of Toms it seems finally have an entourage of lovely Jennies. They are being coy and hard to get but they are keeping company with the gents now. It’s just a matter of time before nature takes it’s course and sets the stage for a brood of young chicks. Life goes on, doesn’t it? Life always finds a way.

And so as bleak as the news may be this day, I am reminded by my Turkey friends that life is a gift.

Peace, Love, and Glimmers to you!

day 76…catching up

where there is smoke
.
fire
is most certainly raging
somewhere
there is no denying it
we see the smoke billowing, blotting out the sky
here…there
random houses set afire, leaving nothing…
those who fan the flames
do not care
that people are still inside

Catching up today …I took a social media news break yesterday. Not that I was completely off the hook. My day job provided all the stress I could handle, or not handle. I keep telling myself I am getting too old to deal with office politics and greedy boards and shareholders whose demands trickle down through our micromanaging bosses to us…the worker bees who barely get a chance to taste our own honey.

The prospect of losing my hard earned benefits to pay the wealthy few a bonus for re-electing their great leader makes me all the more weary.

On a positive note, I managed to speak up for myself and set some boundaries. It took a lot for me to stand up for myself. I tend to acquiesce. So there is that. A little victory to celebrate. A glimmer if you will. Enough of a spark to keep me going forward.

Peace, Love, and Glitters,
