Day 21

sister fawn

a fawn came to call
tendering moments of peace
quelling the chaos

~kat

Yesterday was everything and worse than I had expected. Just one day, and already people are suffering. I purposely didn’t watch the events as they unfolded on TV, intent on not being counted amongst those tuning in…numbers being all these monsters care about. But I caught up on the fallout in snippets. I’m so sad for the innocents, so mad for the blatant lies and vile disrespect for outgoing and past leaders, appalled and outraged that the criminals from the coup in 2020 have been given a get out of jail free card. Set free to render retribution and continue their violent rage-filled assault on our country. It is beyond horrible.

But in the midst of my despair, a visitor came calling just outside the window of my room. Folklore tells us when a fawn crosses one’s path, she is a messenger of peace, innocence, and the purity of new beginnings. A call to step forward, leaving behind the worries of the past, to step forward with optimism, to trust one’s intuition and inner wisdom.

After reading this, I paused to breathe. It is all noise, what we’re witnessing. Extremism on steroids to feed the bloodlust of ignorant followers. Just as the fawn shared a gentle moment with me, (a beautiful glimmer, if you will), I can move forward in gentleness and kindness to those who suffer. It’s a good reminder.

Peace, love, kindness, and glimmers to you!

day 20 … a tiny glimmer

Not gonna lie. Today is going to be a dark day for many of us. Sometimes we find glimmers deep inside. It’s worth guarding. To all keepers of the embers of hope, love, peace, justice…we are one. Hold onto the light so that others may find their way out of this present darkness. Peace, love and glimmers to you.

And in the words of a great man whose life we commemorate today…

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

~Martin Luther King, Jr.

frozen over

I was there
the day hell
froze over
when demons raided
our hallowed halls
to crown their king
laughing
in the face
of liberty
her torch
extinguished
by the tears
of our mothers
as decades
were blotted out
by a sharpie scribble
when the halls of justice
usurped by profiteers
sold their souls
and ours
to the highest bidder
filling their pockets
with coins of bit
someday
if my children’s
children’s, children
should wonder
please tell them
I was there that day
face bitter to the wind
guarding the embers
of faith, hope, and love
in my soul
in my dna
that they might
one day
find a spark
in their heart
to lead them back
to the light

A ReVerse Poem of Glimmers – 19 January 2025

A ReVerse Poem of Glimmers - 19 January 2025

no one or thing can dim my light
i wake to magic in the air
I’ve everything I need, and all
I kept it simple you might say
No filter…just my iPhone and me….and the morning sun!
sweetness in winter
eternity smiled
she gives us diamonds,
and living to tell
I remembered to breathe
it won’t last, it just won’t
the sacred morning stillness
we coexist peacefully
We are on the cusp of hope
it is fragile, like rice paper
(an) elephant in the room
This has been one of those weeks…IYKYK
(like) when the hurricane raged through
rustling thickets
the sun will rise tomorrow

~kat

Today feels like a good time to collect the thoughts of the past nineteen days…all the glimmers that fed my heart and soul as we barreled toward dreadful…tomorrow that is. The end of an era, hopefully not the end of democracy. I can’t promise you that it’s all going to be okay, or that some of us will suffer at the hands of power hungry oligarchs, but I can promise you glimmers. Peace, love, hope, and glimmers to you! ✨✨✨✨✨💚✨✨✨✨✨

A ReVerse poem (a practice I started many years ago) is a summary poem with a single line lifted from each entry of a collection of work over a particular timeframe and re-penned in chronological order as a new poem. Unlike a collaborative poem, the ReVerse features the words of one writer, providing a glimpse into their thoughts over time. I use it as a review of the previous week…or in this case, over the past several weeks.

day 19

yesterday’s promise

just like today
the sun will rise tomorrow
and the day after

~kat

Tomorrow, everything we know to be true and good and righteous and just could begin to crumble. But there are certain true things we can all cling to…glimmers…and a reminder that whatever happens the sun will rise tomorrow. Peace, love, and glimmers to you. Remember to be kind, to look after one another and most importantly, to breathe.

Day 18…the natives are restless

deep freeze thaw

rustling thickets
wild wanderers outing
the world at dawn

A magnetic poetry haiku - nature kit online.

Eighteen days of glimmers…so far…which just goes to show you…even on the most dreadful of days it is possible to find glimmers amidst triggers of angst. Glimmers give one pause, a moment to breathe, to regain a smidgen of sanity, a brief detour from chaos, respite for the soul.

I view this time as training for the calamitous, unfolding, unknowable known ahead, because in fact we’ve been here before…but this time promises to be exponentially more out of control. We’re going to need every glimmer we can muster to survive the coming years and to thrive clear-headed with determination to be love, light, empathy, truth-bearers, and defenders of freedom, liberty, and hope. I’m pressing myself to find glimmers every day and to share them here with you. 365 days of glimmers? I’m determined to ferret out the light in the darkness and cling to hope for us all.

A side note as we embark on this journey…I have noticed that a good many glimmers have been from nature thus far. I have pondered this and want to explore what I realized even more. Anyone who has ever happened upon a dilapidated shed in the middle of nowhere swallowed by vines, tree saplings and moss, or a sidewalk mangled, cracked, and rendered impassable by a the roots of a tree, or even layers of cracking asphalt with flowers sprouting from the loam beneath, knows that nature knows how to reclaim what is hers. She can be our model and guide. She has much wisdom to share if we’re paying attention!

And so with that charge in mind…Peace and glimmers to you!

More glimmers from last night into this morning…the natives on Bramlett Mountain are restless! 🥰✨✨✨
