day 192 – ReVerse Sunday, 13 July 2025

ReVerse Sunday, 13 July 2025

there is a whisper of light
survival is life
just a glimmer…

ignorance,
I won’t confuse you
is hard to believe
would they care?
lunacy ensues

sunlight shimmering through trees
when it’s our time we’ll fight to stay

I love today’s ReVerse poem! It perfectly encapsulates the past week that vividly reminded me how fragile and temporary this little life of ours is. So many incidents of loss in the midst of indescribable beauty and resilience was the theme of the week. The highs and the lows. The rollercoaster that is life where we are often holding on for dear life, trying not to lose our hats or our heads as the wind (and water) sweeps through us. Moments of quiet, of peace, of life going on, with barely enough time to look back, reminding me that the past and not even my assumptions about the future are as important as the present moment. The right here, right now, and the urgency of needing to breathe deeply as this moment settles my soul.

That was last week. Before I wish you well in the coming week, I invite you to pause with me for a moment. Take a deep breath…settle into your skin and feel your heart filling…and exhale slowly. The coming week is inevitable, but this moment is everything.

Much love, peace, and glimmers to you.

Today’s glimmer…a photo of an African Violet plant I adopted yesterday. A bit of water and feeding and it has nearly doubled in size overnight. Isn’t it amazing what a little loving tenderness and care can do! ✨💚✨

A ReVerse poem (a practice I started many years ago) is a summary poem with a single line lifted from each entry of a collection of work over a particular timeframe and re-penned in chronological order as a new poem. Unlike a collaborative poem, the ReVerse features the words of one writer, providing a glimpse into their thoughts over time. I use it here as a review of the past week.

day 187

just a glimmer
is all that it takes
to spark hope

(a Lune Poem 3/5/3 (syllables or word count)

I do not have a green thumb. Houseplants come to my home to die. Last summer we had nurtured a potted banana tree plant from a few feet tall to over four feet, with a huge dose of help from Mother Nature. The warm wet climate here loves plants and we were able to keep it outside in the garden where it thrived.

As temperatures started to dip close to freezing we brought the tree inside to winter until spring. After a month or so I noticed that a thin layer of mold had developed on the soil. The treatment we applied to eliminate the mold took our beautiful banana tree with along with the mold. By winter’s end it had withered to a lone stalk. By spring only a seemingly dead root ball remained. I moved the barren pot outside to the porch. Thinking we might plant another…lessons learned, hopefully we’d manage to survive winter next time.

To my surprise I began to notice several sprouts pushing up from around the base of the root ball. I gave it a lovely spot with plenty of afternoon sun and as you can see, my beleaguered banana tree is thriving (with even a few more baby sprouts emerging nearby.)

Every time I look at it, I feel a sense of hope. It seemed as if all was lost. I had killed it, I thought, due to my inexperience and aforementioned ungreen thumb. But it decided to give me another chance. And I am not taking this privilege lightly. It was grace that dared to trust me when I’ve failed in the past. I am grateful for the glimmer of hope this gives.

And in light of the current calamitous destruction we are witnessing in our world I am encouraged to hope. Even if all seems lost, may we be bestowed with a dose of grace; enough to feed our souls to rebuild and reclaim our lives after the dust has settled. Today’s glimmer is that four letter word that gives everything meaning and purpose…hope.

Much love, peace, and hope-infused glimmers to you.

day 185 ~ a ReVerse

a ReVerse…heatwaves, oppression, and revolutionary kindness

earth barely breathing…
the rising mist that smells of musk
feels like hot breath on your skin,
I am already dreaming
the fiddler plays in the rain
as they pull the plug on a dying nation’s life support
prayers of souls, woke, cling to hope for the dawn
but it’s too late, the deed is done
it takes some effort, you know, to hate
Each of us is called to stand, to show the world we care
compassionate acts touch hard hearts one by one
sometimes reality is too great a burden to bear

~kat

When I look back over the past few weeks as recorded by each day’s poetry, thoughts, and glimmers, it is no surprise that I needed a pause to rest; to assess, to realign my priorities, and most of all to recharge. It’s been a rough time for many. It can be hard to hope and easy to feel as if resistance is futile (as the saying goes).

They…yes they…unfortunately, we are in an us and them reality now, and they would like us to believe its over. They would like us give up. They want to turn us against each other by spreading lies and  by turning up the gaslighting.

But we did not come this far with our souls intact to concede defeat now. Revolution comes at a price and requires unflinching commitment and courage. We can’t all take to the streets, but we can all be kind. We can’t all rush to the front lines, but we can help a neighbor, or a stranger. Even the simplest thing…a smile with intentional eye contact…a nod, can change someone’s world for a moment. I have witnessed it firsthand. The moment when a tiny spark ignites in someone’s eyes when they realize that you see them and they realize they are not alone.

So let us all recharge our batteries in whatever way we need to. And let this revolution commence, one spark of kindness, compassion, and glimmers of light at a time. We are all weary, but we are not alone. We have each other.

Much love, peace and glimmers of light to you!

day 123

the ash tree

I didn’t realize in autumn
when the leaves of summer
were dancing on the wind,
that this would be her last
fall and winter, her limbs left
exposed to bear the bitter cold,
I wonder now if she had already
left before the first frost,
for I had only known her
a few years, when her once lush
raiment had already thinned…
I never rested in her shade
on hot, sunny summer days
never saw her in full bloom,
memories of nested fledglings
taking first flights, learning
to bend with the fiercest of tempests
were things I could only imagine,
her bones exposed now against
a beautiful sea of green, even now
the crows and mourning doves
perch on her brittle limbs
surveying the landscape and me…
how is it possible to miss someone
you never truly knew, and yet I do
how I wish I had known you old tree,
in the spring…

~kat

Another bittersweet day. We need to call a tree service to take this ash tree down. Her fragile condition threatens our vehicles and home should a strong wind overtake her. I’ve watched her slow decline since we moved here a few years ago. I knew it was just a matter of time. But I was not ready for it to be this year. She was a special tree. Recently I noticed this heart-shape hollowed out in the bark on her trunk…a parting goodbye I imagine and a gentle acknowledgement of my admiration for her. It’s as if she showed me her heart.

I am learning as I age the art of letting go…and I am grateful for the grace of these lessons. I think it may actually be a blessing. When my time comes I hope to slip away as gently as my friend, the ash tree.

Now there’s a glimmer for you.

Much love, peace, and gentle glimmers to you.

day 120

“In a spiritual context, a chrysalis symbolizes a period of transformation, spiritual growth, and rebirth.”

The photos above are the before (left), after (right) and a combination of both (middle).

chrysalis

‘twas just yesterday
the trees stood bare on the hills
buds burst overnight
and new life emerged, greening
sweet scent of flowers wafting

cool breezes moan soft
tossing fresh leaves as trees sway
on the cusp of dusk

~kat

Today is the first day of May. Beltane Blessings to those who celebrate! Also this week I witnessed the annual transformation of the trees from bare limbs to tender green. It’s miraculous actually. Just as I wait eagerly for the return of the hummingbirds, I look forward to waking up one morning to shade, the trees bursting with life. The first flowers, songbirds, the song of peepers along the creek bed as night falls. The world rousing from slumber in a symphony of new life. It’s my favorite thing about this time of year. And I feel so blessed to be here for one more spring.

May your days be filled with sweetness, good health and joy! Much love, peace and glimmers to you!
