Light – Haiku

img_5612

A few Haiku in response to TJ’s Household Haiku Challenge. This week’s prompt: Light/The Qualities of Light. If you would like to read more, click HERE.

I watched helplessly
as light faded from her eyes
she left me helpless.

I knew you were there
your shadow danced with the light
through the window shade.

The blind perceive things
those with sight may overlook
who then, sees the light?

Cheeky + Thrill Seekers + Who Play Hard

A trio of Haiku for Ronovan Writes weekly Haiku Challenge. This week the prompt words are: Shower & Play. To read more click HERE.

Shower’s are cheeky
when the couple has played house
before the wedding.

After a deluge
the river banks swell and churn
and thrill-seekers play!

Those who play hardest
will lose friends if they forget
to shower harder!

Haiku Of The Day Challenge #4

img_6391
Welcome to the roundup for this week’s Haiku of the Day Challenge. PJ (Priceless Joy) joined the challenge once again, selecting Monday’s word as her prompt. She will tell you that she is not a good haiku writer, but I think she does a splendid job! See her Haiku below.

I added my usual Friday word. Dictionary.com had some great words this week. Have a great week!

—————————-

Monday’s Word of the Day from Dictionary.com: Apostasy – noun: a total desertion or departure from ones religion, principles, party, cause, etc.

His apostasy
had him running from the men
who wanted him dead.

PJ (Priceless Joy) @ Beautiful Words
—————————-
Friday’s Word of the Day from Dictionary.com: Amaranthine – adjective: unfading; everlasting; of or like the amaranth; of purplish-red color.

Defying the years
An amaranthine grace glowed
From her twinkling eyes.

If you would like to join us this week, here are the rules!

Word of the Day Haiku Challenge

1. Pick a day that works for you. Once you pick your day, stick to it. This is what makes it fun and quite a challenge.

2. Choose an online dictionary that features a word of the day. I use dictionary.com but there are others. Pick your go-to dictionary.

3. Create a Haiku using the word of the day. In this challenge, no synonyms allowed.

4. A Haiku is a three line poem with the syllable structures 3-5-3 or 5-7-5.

5. (Optional) If you want, you may also post a expanded history of the word, your thoughts about the word, or some unusual facts about the word of the day.

6. Post a link to your Haiku in the comments so I can find you.

7. I’ll post the weekly roll call list on Sunday. So you have until Saturday at midnight (EST) to post your haiku.

8. Have fun!

Sunday’s Week in ReVerse – 20 March 2016

Happy Sunday! And it is a happy…Sunday. But a look at this week’s ReVerse one might suggest that things had taken a turn. Well…they did.

I blame it on the time change. It’s not healthy you know. Saving Daylight? As if daylight needed saving!

Last time I checked Nature had everything running smoothly. Seasons come and go with only a few hiccups, those random, off-season cool snaps and heat waves, that stir our senses in the transition. The sun rises and sets each day without a hitch. Who are we to prescribe it’s coming and going  on a schedule to our liking?

Well, for the record, I don’t like it. And back when it was first proposed as a national energy conserving tactic neither did the farmers. One should not mess with Mother Nature. She does a splendid job of lengthening our days in the warmer seasons if we are patient. We are not.

Daylight Saving is unnatural. Ask any toddler who is sent to bed at their prescribed 8 or 9 pm bedtime in the middle of summer, or better yet, ask the weary parents who must try to convince them to settle down at “night” when the sun is still shining!

I must admit that I have been lulled into acceptance this past week. Leaving my cubicle to beautiful sunlight has been wonderful. But it is a guilty pleasure! I know I am only enjoying it because we are cheating the moon and night of their full measure. Lovely night, with its promise of rest and regeneration, does not deserve our contempt.

And so yes, things are a bit out of whack. Subliminally, the words that spilled out this week are trying to tell me to fall back, to accept Nature’s perfect timing and perfection. We humans are not good at leaving well enough alone!

Sunday’s Week in ReVerse – 20 March 2016

shifting my circadian bleeps
catchy talking points,
not a “joker” smile
always have a plan
as if things matter
I was beginning to think
like being cooked in a microwave oven…
from the inside out!
she wished she had said, “no”
no wonder we turn our stereos to “11”
but eventually they died,
never much liked that mutt,
we all build nests to feel safe
defying the years
can’t get there from here!

If you’re new here, a bit of background to explain the verse above. It is a line from each poem or prose from the previous week, lifted and placed in the order written to create a new poem…a ReVerse snapshot review of the week. It helps me to prepare for the upcoming week with a clean slate.

Nesting – A Monotetra

Paper scraps, moss and bits of twine
Feathers, leaves, wisteria vines
A compost cup of mud and slime
Where nestlings dine, where nestlings dine.

Bumper pads, diapers, teddy bears
Bassinets, booties, rocking chairs
Gathered in wait for future heirs
A mom prepares, a mom prepares.

Books, newspapers and magazines
Pizza boxes from floor to beams
Collectibles to the extreme
A hoarder’s dream, a hoarder’s dream.

Tattered blankets and cardboard bed
collected things others have shed
A duffle bag to rest one’s head
a homeless-stead, a homeless-stead.

A bit of twine, a cardboard base
Bassinets, booties, books to case
We all build nests to feel safe
We need our space, we need our space.
