day 302

What’s something you believe everyone should know.

open minds

never stop learning
we don’t know what we don’t know
fools insist they do

~kat

I attended a social event recently. The table conversation was quite enlightening and disturbing. (I didn’t say much…just listened). People declared such outrageous things with such confidence and assurance of validity of their truth! It was shocking. Their remarks were right out of a certain propaganda playbook. I used to think that intelligent people surely saw right through the lies and what’s happening in our country and the world. But I was mistaken in that assumption. My wife corrected me when we spoke about it after I got back home.

“Educated does not always mean intelligent,” she remarked. Wow! That perfectly explained it. There’s a reason I limit my time in public and prefer the company of deer, squirrels, crows, and trees.

Much love, peace, and glimmers to you!

Today’s glimmer is the view out my window as I work. I love autumn! 🍂🍁✨💚✨🍁

day 301

What does it mean to be a kid at heart?

that kid

you know her you know
she’s the one who reminds you
you’ve made it this far

~kat

she’s just a glimmer some days…

day 297…a proper glimmer

As promised, a proper glimmer. Busy day out and about…voted…did some shopping…got my COVID shot (while they’re still available! And now I’m taking a moment to take it all in, to call it a day. It was a good day actually. But the is nothing better than this…Gabby snoring on my lap as I rest my eyes a bit. Ending today on a glimmer. We don’t deserve dogs. I realize how blessed I am to have charge over this loyal little soul.

May you have a lovely rest of your weekend. Much love, peace and glimmers to you!

day 292

by a thread

roots of grass,
seeds of change
where hope dwells

~kat

Still thinking about the past weekend’s grassroots peaceful nationwide events and feeling hopeful.

I’m late in posting today’s glimmers. My schedule has kept me busy! you may remember I had gotten a beautiful African Violet plant over the summer. It was three plants in one pot actually, and once the blooms had faded I knew it was time to separate the plants giving them their own bed of fresh soil to settle into. So, I did that over the weekend. On Monday, several days after the transplant each plant is thriving! The hue you see in the photos above is from a grow lamp. I am spoiling them a bit. Well not really. Giving them luscious soil and plenty of UV light is not spoiling. Plants, like people need the most basic things to thrive. Over 7 million people came out on Saturday to remind those who may have forgotten or who just don’t care, of that very fact!

Bonus glimmer! You may also notice my rescued sago pine plant featured above. I had to be very brave in my intervention, clipping away the wilted fronds as was suggested in my research on recovery for sago palms. To my delight nubs of new life erupted from the base. And now a month or more later, just look at those leaf limbs! She is coming back! Such a beautiful soul.

Much love, peace and glimmers to you!

days 283-284-285 ~playing catch up

It’s been a bit of a whirlwind my friends. Had a biopsy on Thursday to check a troubling spot…won’t know the results for a few weeks.

Met my second great-granddaughter on Saturday, and also spent time at a fall festival with my youngest daughter’s family and three of my grandkids.

Chores and dinner with friends on Sunday. And today shopping for an alternative heat source so we are not stranded and freezing when the power goes out this coming winter…notice I didn’t say if we lose power, but when.

Oh and in the midst of all this one of my beloved crows fell ill, injured or just old, and I kept vigil, caring for him best I could with extra food, because of course he decided to do it at our feeder near our house. He was nowhere to be found today…I can only surmise he either fell victim to a predator, or picked a private place to ascend. Now my other crows are staying clear of me and the feeder. They must think I killed him. At least the deer came by this evening to cheer me up.

So…I did manage to write a few poems today. It was an effort. And I did manage to find several glimmers in the midst of this chaos. Don’t even get me started on the state of the world! Looks like the Gaza Riviera is one step closer to becoming DT’s next venture. (I am happy for the families reunited but there are still people and children suffering…). Thank goodness for glimmers. Much love, peace, and glimmers to you. ~kat ✨✨✨💚💚💚✨✨✨

Catch up Monday

day 282

as the crow
.
dies
the flock members
cry
for one of their own
hovering close by, never alone
cycle
of life, so bittersweet
ironically
dying crows
foretell good fortune

Pi Archimedes poem ~ Syllable count by line: 3.1415926535

A dead crow in your yard may symbolize transformation, change, or new beginnings, while some believe it represents the end of bad things. In case you missed it this is my glimmer in the midst of sadness for this beautiful soul. It’s gift to me in parting.

day 283

hypocrisy

peacemakers don’t deal in hate
they don’t destroy families, denying rights
crush all dissent, while stirring up fights
these cruel acts are not up for debate
they don’t destroy families, denying rights
peacemakers don’t deal in hate

~kat

Biolet - It is a six line poem, and like the triolet, the first two lines are repeated as the last two lines, however in reverse. The rhyme scheme of the biolet thus can be expressed as ABbaBA (with the capital  letters representing the repeated lines).

Some glimmers in the midst of madness…

day 284

biopsy ~ a haiku

it might be cancer
a benign statement proving
it’s not in my head

~kat

And finally, taking in the beauty that surrounds me. It’s moments like these that I cherish, come what may. Peace to you. ✨💚✨
