I Don’t Get It – A Décima

I Don’t Get It

Please tell me, how do you defend
the vile actions of the prez
the awful things he does and says
while guzzling down his koolaid blend
of hateful rhetoric and then
you want to give him four more years
to level all that we hold dear
and sell our souls to oligarchs,
do you not see his evil heart?
That you are lost for good, I fear.

This little poetry form gives me license to vent on the politics of the day. Honestly, I just don’t get it. 😳

For today’s challenge at Ronovanwrites, write a décima where the word BLEND must be one of the A line words. Then the other A line(s) word(s) must rhyme with BLEND.

A Décima is a 10-line poem with 8 syllables per line. The rhyme pattern is: abbaaccddc. Further study of this form indicates that the subject matter of a Décima tends to be more socially conscious than some poems, taking on topics such as philosophy, politics, dogma, and religion. It can also be in the form of satire, criticism or insulting to an enemy/opponent in a situation.

Sometimes you break the rhyme into two stanzas using the following rhyme pattern. abbaac/cddc.

little piggies at the market – a rant

little piggies at the market – a rant

when you refuse to wear a mask
and stand too close to me in line
I bite my tongue and bide the time
and mumble to myself, ‘you ass’

is courtesy too much to ask,
or kindness, manners? what the hell!
who made you special, huh? do tell!
it’s freedom, liberty you prize
no matter who gets sick or dies
i wish…no that’s not nice…you well

In Too Deep – A Décima

In Too Deep – A Décima

I’ll never say I told you so
there is no pleasure being right
no gloating glare from me, despite
the fact I warned of this…you know.

We’re in too deep, we’ve sold our soul.
The piper’s ruse, out of control,
devours all that’s decent whole,
leaving destruction in its wake.
Now with our very lives at stake
ignorance knows no bounds, it grows.

Decided to give this a go. It’s a new poetry form, the Décima, and a new challenge from RonovanWrites. This week’s prompt word is Grow (C rhyme line).

A Décima is a 10-line poem with 8 syllables per line. The rhyme pattern is: abbaaccddc. Further study of this form indicates that the subject matter of a Décima tends to be more socially conscious than some poems, taking on topics such as philosophy, politics, dogma, and religion. landlocked seafarer

landlocked seafarer

like soft ocean waves, tree
leaves sing on windy days
‘neath a blue canopy
where the sun’s warm kisses
stir seashore memories,
a place far from the clay
where sand yields to the sea,
come away, come away,
imagine it with me

Happy May! – A little magic is appropriate for the month of May! I am exploring the possibilities of the Magic 9 poem – This 9-line poem doesn’t have any rules as far as meter or subject matter–just a rhyme scheme: abacadaba. (Or abracadabra with the r’s removed…though I may need to create my own variation for fun, with a refrain line inserted for the r’s. Stay tuned!)

the year spring never came

the year spring never came

if we had paid attention to the signs that long, wet
winter, we might have known that spring would never
come, even though nature took her cues from the
moon and sun, as remnants of frosting melted and gentle
rain drenched the dormant soil, seeds sprouted toward
the warmth, toward the light; soon clusters of creeping
buttercups, henbits, chickweed, wild violets, dandelions
and daffodils lulled us into believing that it was
spring, but I tell you, spring never came that year,
the world stopped spinning, life stopped living as
we peered at each other from across alley ways and live
chat screens, winter held fast as the reaper jumped
season mowing us down with his sickle, a harvest
of untouchables, legions of them stacked floor to
ceiling on ice, mourners left with nothing to show
for their sorrow…no, spring never came that year,
summer too, lost her luster to empty streets, abandoned
subways, beaches, and empty watering holes where
masked ghosts hurried about never mingling, mercifully
autumn stepped in bidding us to let go, let go, let go, let go…
as another winter loomed darker still, no mention of spring

For NaPoWriMo/GloPoWriMo Challenge Day 30: write a poem about something that returns.
