Na|GloPoWriMo 2026 Day 22 Prompt: Today, we’d like to challenge you to write your own poem in which the speaker is in dialogue with him or herself.
I had a few thoughts on this one…
1~
the spider
I won’t be able to sleep
I can’t just leave it there
What if it wanders?
in the dark,
on the ceiling over my head,
watching me, waiting
for the right moment
to drop!!!
I can’t sleep
while it’s under the same roof!
I know what I need to do
roll a magazine, or
maybe get a broom…
yeah, a broom, that’s good
distance between me and IT
take aim and swing,
but I don’t dare miss…
what if I miss and it gets away?
Can’t let it get away,
I’ll never find it
It’ll just be out there, somewhere
until it drops on my face!
I’ve never seen one this big
I wonder what kind it is?
I should google it…
No googling, focus!
I can do this
steady now…
I can do this…
but it’s so beautiful,
even if it is terrifying…
I CAN’t DO THIS!
I’ll get a Tupperware bowl,
scooch it inside with the lid,
and then transfer it outside
I’ve got this…I’ve got this…oh my…
OH MY!
whoa, that was easier
than I thought it would be
I knew I could do it…I knew it
there you go little guy…
there you go…
NOW…I can sleep!

voices in my ear
you know you want to
it’s wrong, don’t do it
no one needs to know
but you’ll know, you…will…know
somebody’s gonna do it, might as well be…
no! Not you…you know what your mama
always said
your mama! don’t see nobody’s mama here
well she’s here…she’s always here between
your ears…
ugh…for Pete’s sake, it’s JUST A COOKIE! your favorite…you know you want it.
it IS your favorite, chocolate chip with
macadamia nuts…
that’s right, knew you’d come around, it’s gonna be so good…
you really don’t NEED it though, it’s the
polite, right thing to do…just leave it…
walk away
wait, don’t, oh well, one day you’ll realize that your sacrifice is all for nothing! Anyone else would have taken that last cookie, and not given it a single thought…
yeah, well you’re not anybody, you’re
your mama’s daughter…like she always
said, “right is right”
yada yada yada…

Today’s glimmer is a real beauty. First full bloom of our moon flower. While it can be highly toxic to people, but the bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, seem to love it, especially when it blooms at night. I was able to catch a photo in the morning! Fascinating plant.
Much love, peace, and night glimmers (or at the very least, sweet dreams) to you.

It’s been fascinating to see such large blooms on an as yet baby vine. I’ll be happy when spring stops dawdling and the it finally takes off!

Brilliance. Made me laugh. Thank you.
Lady of the Night flower? A bit different than I know it. But still beautiful. They fancy moth-pollinators. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Selma. I’m glad you got a laugh…we all need a good laugh these days, several if I’m being honest…but in moderation lest anyone think we’re losing it…even if we are! 😉🤣🤣🤣😳 I read that too…the moon flower is also a favorite of moths. We had a nasty unseasonable frost on Monday. Several of our newly planted over the weekend plants got kissed a little too deeply. I’m hoping they survive. To be continued I hope…
