only one

only one

in the end there is only one
left standing in the widening breach
to mend our brokenness, to reach
out, lead, to show us how it’s done
by example, in compassion
only one, though some may cast doubt
one will be raised up, one cast out
just like the seasons come and go
every four years change comes, you know
democracy, where each vote counts

when chaos lingers
we trust our higher angels
to restore balance

grace enough

grace enough

there is grace
more than enough grace
to hold us
through the night
whether or not we believe
the dawn is coming

we winter in hope

we winter in hope

when the last leaf has fallen
and the blue, crisp and clear, is revealed
behind a tangled web of exposed branches
we can cling to the promise of spring
buds of hope waiting to bloom anew

A Gogyohka for Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday – Poet’s Choice Prompt.

Tanka Tuesday – The Illusion of Power

when the wind
bellows through a forest
it’s the trees
that yield,
not those that are unbending,
that endure unmoved

A Shadorma (3/5/3/3/7/5) for Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge. Today’s Prompt Theme – “The Illusion of Power”.

Magnetic Poetry Monday – 26 October 2020

I see red when I hear
their slow sad voices repeating
the lies of a fool who
secretly hates them;
their hearts poisoned by darkness.
It is of no use trying to
save them for they are long
gone…I must look away, smile,
and melt into blue.
