Eleanor would miss the wooden floors that moaned under her steps and the warm smells that filled the kitchen, wafting to the chamber room hallways through the dumbwaiter shaft.

She scanned the room, eyes stinging as she held back salty tears.

The spinet was all that remained. It would stay. The new owners had fallen in love with it, offering a fetching sum in addition to paying the asking price. Besides, it was too bulky to move.

“One more song for the road?” Her fingers knew every note by heart. She closed her eyes and imagined him listening.

Did you know…
The trill of Chipping Sparrow is nearly twice as long as that of any other species, and this is a consistent and very useful clue. In addition, the overall quality of the sound is usually mechanical and rattling, due to the complexity of each individual phrase. – Source:  Sibley Guides

Best place to be in sub-zero weather…bundled in fur! 🙂

Forget about style
when winter’s crisp nip blusters
mukluks and parkas.

The girl had spirit
sashaying about en vogue
second-hand vintage.

The latest gadgets
are all the rage on store shelves
obsolete once home!

Ill-fated Ice Crystals – A Haiku

I couldn’t resist! Just one more Haiku for RonovanWrites’ challenge this week, inspired by the beautiful ill-fated ice crystals that form on my windshield each morning. I know I should pause and take in their loveliness, but I have a schedule to keep, so…

Alas, I admit to just a twinge of guilt. But we all have a dark side, don’t we?  I just never thought I could be so ruthless! TeeHee.  😉
