Committed

A few Haiku for Haiku Horizon’s Haiku Poetry Challenge, prompt word: Commit.

committed people
committing fanatic deeds
end up committed

commitment is key
for relationships to work
commit to concede

to be committed
to goodness, truth and justice
peace is elusive

Twittering Tales #12 – 10 January 2017

About the challenge: Each Tuesday I will provide a prompt photo, and your mission is to tell a story based on that prompt in 140 characters or less.

If you accept the challenge, be sure to let me know in the comments with a link to your tale. A final note: if you need help tracking the number of characters in your story, there is a nifty online tool that will count for you at charactercountonline.com.

I will do a roundup each Tuesday, along with providing us a new prompt.

Have Fun!

Here is the roundup based on last week’s photo:

Starting us off, a little romance and mystery from Michael at Morpethroad:

You sure this is the way?

Positive.

Your hand feels cold.

Hold on I’ll warm you.

Glad I wore my boots.

Nearly there.

I’m so tired.

I’ll carry you?
(139 characters)

Next up, carrying on the romance theme is Joy from Poetry Joy

Union means more than mere
exchange of vows and rings
Now they’re coupled
together in every sense
Her heart and legs run
wild, melting for him

(139 characters)

The Bag Lady tackled the resilience, hope and perhaps the naïveté of young love…

Only being married a week, this walk to the bay afforded some privacy. The farm was struggling, but they were going to make it work.
(132 Characters)

Kathryn from Another Foodie Blogger, romance took a turn toward drama and a broken heart!

“I can’t wait for you to see my surprise up ahead!”

John walked hesitantly beside her, knowing his ring would soon be going to his new love.
(139 Characters)

Sonali at Howling with the Wolf takes us down memory lane…

“Do you remember this field, love?”

“Of course.

I proposed.

Dropped the ring.

Then we had to search on our hands and knees for an hour!”
(127 characters)

From Pat at Black Cat Alley a tale that is out of this world!

“You’ve been gone 3 days!” his voice accusatory.

Grabbing his hand, she pulled – “A crop circle – over there – I was abducted by aliens.”
(136 Characters)

From Willowdot21…a cautionary tale perhaps?

Life’s too short not to do
What you want once in a while
So let’s to ourselves be true
Look at this sunset I dare you not to smile
(137 Characters)

Lady Lee Manila took the alien theme to the next level!

Hurry up, we’re hitching a ride to the galaxy.

We could work as star-chasers.

As long as we make it, we’re up in the air.

Forget them all.
(135 Characters)

From Lorraine’s Frilly Freudian Slip a nod back to the good old days…

“Out of gas, she laughed, “that old trick.”

“Seriously,” he replied. “No joke.”

“Now, get your boots on. Gas station coupla miles back.”
(136 Characters)

Irena at Books and Hot Tea offered us a glimpse into young love…

Together they could run and run. Run like children. Run away, escape the past. Run towards the welcoming future.
(112 Characters)

And finally newcomer, Stacy, at Warning the Stars, plotted the ultimate revenge revenge in her tale…

“Where are we going,” he asked. as he readjusted the blindfold.
“We’re almost there,” she answered as she guided him toward the cliffs edge.

(139 Characters)

I kicked the round off with an urban legend

“Come on Jon, hurry!” Sue took his hand.

There was a huge flattened area under a tree.

“I swear, I saw Bigfoot here!”

“Right…” Jon laughed.

Doomed

Agent Smith knew the Association would eventually find him.

“Go home to your families while you can,” he sighed, “nothing can save us now.”

Late

early birds will lose
against a wise, wormy slug
who’s a late riser

time is a tyrant
punishing those who are late
by making them wait

lately is not late
it is actually now
but in retrospect

A trio of Haiku for Haiku Horizon’s weekly challenge based on the word “Late”.

We had some great stories this week. Thanks to everyone who joined in the fun! Here’s the roundup!

First to cast a line or two 🙂 was Michael at Morpethroad:
You think you can cast it that far?

Easy peasy do it in my sleep.

Go on then.

Ouch and darn it. Can you get the hook out of my bum?

Told you so.
(140 Characters)

Next in line was Joy from the blog Poetry Joy.
They rest the rod, because
man is more than the fish
he caught. Sometimes you
need to shoot the breeze, watch
waves roll and fish swim free
(137 characters)

Then from Lorraine at her blog frilly freudian slip:
John and Gilbert were fishing for mermaids. The gals were in season, and the lads had licenses from the marriage bureau at City Hall.
(133 characters)

Sonali jumped in with this tale at Howling with the Wolf:
“Wonder what happened to my love message in a bottle?”

Thinking guiltily of the one he stole to keep under his bed, he said “Probably Lost”
(139 characters)

From Kathryn at Another Foodie Blogger …mermaids? 🙂 :
“They say if you squint at that rock at this time of day, you can see the mermaids on it.

“But I don’t see squat.”

“Put in the pole, buddy.”
(139 Characters)

And finally, here’s Pat’s tale from her blog Black Cat Alley:

“You netted a real live one the other night.”

“Yup, but it cost me a king’s ransom.”

“How so?”

“She was a hooker.”
(111 Characters)

And mine…the one that got away…

“She got away, dad.”

“Well son, years from now you’ll remember her bigger than life when you tell it.”

“I doubt it. She wasn’t the one.”
(138 Characters)

I really enjoyed these tales. I’m so glad you all are twittering with me each week.

Now for this week’s prompt, initially I had visions of that “Farmer’s Only” dating commercial when I saw it (as well as the unfortunate theme song-earworm rattling around in my head). But I was still intrigued by the photo enough to take my twitter tale a different direction. Can’t wait to see what you all come up with! The photo is below:

god

For a brief moment, as she had done for thousands of years, god revealed herself to humanity, placing another star in the moonless night sky.

She is not at all what one might expect; a child bundled in an overcoat wearing golashes, but it is the expression on her face, her all-knowing eyes and her warm understanding smile that convinces some people to believe.

God knows we are a stubborn lot, as evidenced by the twinkling, diamond-bedazzled firmament, but she continues to show us how loved we are by leaving a trail of stardust to guide us home.
