nesting empty

her wall is lined with
photographs of happy
smiles and silly faces,
destination postcard
vistas, wet-nosed flapping
puppy tongues and toothless
gummy grins. a monument
of moments captured by a
shutter snap, of life full-
lived but fleeting, scattered
now upon the wind.
at times she can imagine
pitter-pattered steps and
laughter, memories
fresh, warm as a whisper,
as it brushes past her
ear. the dust has settled
softly on her fading gallery,
her chicks have flown
the nest to make their
own sweet memories.

Heaven

heaven

I became free when I
realized that
Heaven
can’t be bought
or sold
or bargained for…
and that it is
real
and all inclusive
and accessible.
Because
Heaven
Is
Now.

Magnolia

Another plot of earth, another lifetime,  but once again I am twitterpated by the elegance of one of my favorite trees…a poem from time past but still true…with a bit of camera magic to multiply my delight. What’s that I see? A faerie lighting on my fledgling tree! Can you see her too?  Magic is afoot this balmy summer’s eve.

Magnolia, emerging despite herself
now stands ten feet tall. I remember
when she was only three, wondering if her pale,
leathery leaves would survive the winter.
She has endured ice, snow, wind, glaring sun
seeming, surprisingly, stronger for it,
fragrant blossoms bursting with tenacity.

Her cumbersome, awkward extremities
have now softened – luminous, transparent,
fragile. Not hardened by life’s crushing blows,
when wind does howl, she bends as if caressed –
unguarded, grace-filled, refined, generous
with deep-rooted wisdom, doing what trees do
best – growing, yielding, season to season.

Heartstops  (encounters into and out of love)

1.

the edge of my peripheral view
caught a glimpse of you
drinking me

i dared not return your gaze
for fear of succumbing

piercing intensity
branded the nape of my neck

trembling waves of air
fluttered wisps of my hair
as you blinked

2.

hair on end
arcing to brush
your aura

when not
by chance
we touch

then try to pull
away like mercury
colliding

3.

breathless
sublime
smile

remembering
rapturous refrains
tracing
swelling syllables
through
my
soul

4.

the wind
played its part
wooing when
seconds past
your passing
bore your fragrance
seizing me

5.

you exhaled
in close proximity

i turned
inhaling deeply

perchance to share
the moist warm air
that once filled
space inside
of you

6.

fleeting images
embosomed

pale light dancing
on luminous skin
scintillating splendor
soft tossed hair

time eclipsed
in memory
if ever my soul longs
i find you there

7.

aching distance
taunts my senses

scents startle
shadows hound
voices mimic

daggers pierce
my soul

i bleed

Living in the Moment Part 6 – rites of time passage

no matter that
the dawn is fading,
ticking tock into mid
day, I am persuaded
to indulge my heart,
to stay a spell, to
drink this dance of
shadow play full swig,
sweet honey dribbling
down my chin…to linger
a bit more, my spirit
needs to take this in!
