Joy – Magnetic Poetry Monday – 6 February 2017

sometimes joy comes when
we are not looking
it may be there, lingering
on a cool salty breeze
or in a steaming porcelain cup…
it could be
in a dog’s wet kisses,
baby’s breath or red velvet cake
or smiling eyes and belly laughs…

but here’s the thing
you have to notice it to
be blessed.

Magnetic Poetry – Poet Kit

The Clerihew

Another new form, the Clerihew. Said to be a witty verse it is made up of two couplets and a specific rhyme scheme: aabb. It was created by 16 year old Edmund Clerihew in the late 19th century. From the examples it seems one needs to be famous to be featured in a Clerihew. The person’s name should appear in the first line.

Donald Trump, our President
Is now a White House resident.
His wife and son live in the City.
Separated, what a pity.

Beyoncé, “Bey”, pops’s First Lady
just announced she’ll birth two babies.
With big sis Blue and dad JZ
their family grows to 5 from 3.

A slick-haired crooner known as Elvis
caused quite a stir with his loose pelvis
but that was not his mortal sin.
’twas booze and pills that did him in.

Hi there friends, my name is Kat
but I’m not famous; not “all that”.
So, this is an “alt-clerihew”.
I’m quite notorious…it’s true!

Shi Sai Sunday’s Week in ReVerse – 4 February 2017

Happy Sunday! We have made it to the end of another crazy week! When I can pry myself away from the daily news, breathe and give the moment it’s due, I am swept up in hopeful anticipation of spring.

Though the ground hog had his say this week, warning us of Winter’s unwelcome extended visit, I also found myself swimming in a sea of beer (figuratively speaking) as I marked St. Brigid’s feast day and the sure coming of Spring celebrating the rich history of our brothers and sisters of color, and even had the presence of mind to notice a sunset or two. It was a good week.

Silly humans. meanwhile, busied themselves unraveling and dismantling the past 8 years, banning innocents and building walls. It’s a bit upside down for such mayhem and destruction to sweep the landscape in the Spring! We’re obviously not paying attention to our “Mother”.

But like all good mothers She will set things right, swooping in as frigid winter wanes, to light a spark under our feet, one budding bloom at a time.

Be patient my dears and most of all, be kind. ❤

Shi Sai Sunday’s Week in ReVerse – 4 February 2017

my breath lingers
it had been years
pleasing want not need
somee have said that we should get along.
my consolation for working late,
despite the lingering darkness of the night,
I sprout magnificent wings
Spring plans a coup!
a brilliant sea of colors and voices

fear makes us do crazy things.
is life eternal?
happiness is everything…
do you think?
you know she’s not pleased!

When your mother blasts
your first, middle and last name,
you know she’s not pleased!

Fear – A Quinzaine

“They Know Not” – Watercolor Painting by Kat Myrman

Fear makes us do crazy things.
What frightens you most?
Are you free?

~ kat – 4 February 2017

I am full of questions now. Here is another quinzaine to ponder …

“Pro Life” is a misnomer.
Is life eternal?
What is death?

~ kat – 4 February 2017

Wow! This poetry form is like a brain worm! It might even be the key to solving the world’s woes!!! More questions…

Happiness is everything.
What makes you happy?
Glass half full?

~ kat – 4 February 2017

Okay…one more. Then I need to turn off my inquiring mind. I have things to do today!

We can never know the truth.
Is truth absolute?
Do you think?

The Quinzaine

This poetry form is one I’ve never tried before. Warning…it can be addictive once you give your deepest questions a voice. Don’t let its brevity fool you. This seemingly simple 15 syllable French poetry form is one powerful little dynamo. Here is a bit from Shadow Poetry explaining what makes a quinzaine a quinzaine, in case you want to give it a try:

“The English word quinzaine come from the French word qunize, meaning fifteen. A quinzaine is an unrhymed verse of fifteen syllables.

These syllables are distributed among three lines so that there are seven syllables in the first line, five in the second line and three in the third line (7/5/3). The first line makes a statement. The next two lines ask a question relating to that statement.”
