home sweet
these hills are filled with gentle folk
wide-eyed does and frolicking fawns
scampering squirrels and field mice
trotting turkey hens and toms
the sky is blue and all a-flutter
blue jays, cardinals, finches, crows
hummingbirds, phoebes, cowbirds, wrens
turkey vultures swooping low
the air is honeysuckle sweet
waves of windsong through the trees
trills and tweets in harmony
the dawn erupts in symphony
a nearby stream swells, bubbling
the ground hums softly ‘neath my feet
at dusk when all is settling down
the peepers lull us all to sleep
there is no place I’d rather be
surrounded by this sea of green
my heart has found its home at last
here in the woods, living the dream

Na/GloPoWriMo 2026 Day 13 Prompt: Try your hand today at writing your own poem about a remembered, cherished landscape. It could be your grandmother’s backyard, your schoolyard basketball court, or a tiny strip of woods near the railroad tracks. At some point in the poem, include language or phrasing that would be unusual in normal, spoken speech – like a rhyme, or syntax that feels old-fashioned or high-toned.

Today’s Glimmer….is more like a flash, a flicker and a twitter. The hummingbirds are back! And Frankie is commandeering the best seat in the house! The other two…well you can clearly see their attitude.
Much love, peace, and glimmers to you!
