Teddy Bear

I see your heart
your gentle smile; your tender touch
I see your heart
though your tough act is off the charts
I know the truth, you care too much
that mask you wear is just a crutch
I see your heart

we assume we’re safe
behind our locked doors and walls
hearts throb in darkness

A woman’s heart remembers things
she is willing to see the good and
forgive you when you are a fool
but do not lie to her or you’ll
bring out her ferocious side!

disillusioned

eye

we cut our teeth reciting pledges,
innocents, reeking of privilege,
wagons hitched to dead stars, dangling
o’er fields gained by sly finagling
sworn allegiance to vain pipe dreams
promises bigger than they seem
dare not question how, why, where?
the what’s don’t matter, for’s don’t care
following suits, confess, repent
incorruptible, heaven sent
slaying the many for the few
to give the piper king his due
try to set sheep and goats apart
but evil lurks in ev’ry heart.

a single silly petal
that says, “loves me not…”
