day 31

saturated

rain fell dawn to dusk
the sky mute in shades of gray
healing for the soul

~kat

TGIF. I may sleep in tomorrow. Or not. Exhaustion never rests when the sky is falling.

peace, love, and glimmers…even muted in gray glimmers, to you.

day 30…still processing

barely a glimmer

it was a good day
yesterday
from blue sky sunlit dawn
to gentle dusk
a productive day of work
lovely breaks for tea
it was a good day until
innocent souls fell from the sky
a horrible accident
a newly coronated president
looking to lay blame for tragedy
on his watch, it was on his watch
blame on his predecessors
on the beautiful diversity
that makes us strong, not weak
it was a good day
in my small patch of earth
and I cling to the goodness
to be found in simple truths
in the rising sun, in bird song
in the satisfaction
of work well done
in a cup of tea
sweetened by cream
long cold, now bitter
my heart breaking
for us all

This is yesterday’s poetic offering. Sometimes a poem comes to me in swift sequence and sometimes, like yesterday, it takes me all day to sort out my thoughts. Yesterday was one of those days. I started to write in the morning, and added to it during breaks…I admit I was exhausted as yesterday came to a close. And so today you shall see will see two offerings of glimmers as we close out January 2025.

As awful as yesterday was, there were glimmers…tiny, momentary, but glimmers all the same. I cling to these detours from the madness. I cling to the small sparks of hope that they illuminate. Sometimes all we have is a window of light amidst a storm to remind us that the sun is still there in the sky.

Peace, love, kindness, hope, and glimmers to you. Go gently my friends. Be especially gentle with yourself.

Day 29

asylum

there is no safe place
when cruelty becomes sport
vengeance in the wind

~kat

After a brief reprieve from bitter cold and wintry weather the winds returned today. When I was a girl I loved the wind. But age and experience…and reality have jaded my perception. The winds strip the trees bare. Icy breezes drop temperatures to bitter lows. Trees snap and lose their footing. Now that I am older I take shelter when the winds come. These days when the wind whips through the trees I hold my breath and hope that the walls and roof hold. These days the calm after the storm brings sweet relief amidst the aftermath of the tempest’s rage.

Keep safe my friends. Keep each other safe. Peace, love, and glimmers to you.

day 28

Thank you “memedave” for this entertaining meme!

Today while checking updates on my phone I came upon this meme. I love this. The message is great…”make your own mark on the world”. It’s a good reminder. We are all here for a reason. Never apologize for being who you are.

Enter today’s glimmer…an illuminating inspiration if I ever saw one, in a silly meme!

But there is something else about this photo that I noticed. You know, chances are that old tortoise walked that very path multiple times…long before that wire fence was installed and certainly long before some humans framed over his path and poured in a truckload of concrete. He certainly showed them!

The world today is becoming a scary place. People in power are abusing the trust placed in them. The democratic path we have been on for centuries is being paved over by those who would like to rewrite our history, making the world unrecognizable. But, just as that tortoise instinctively knew the way and trudged through the concrete meant to hide the path, those of us who are appalled by the state of things are not losing our minds. We know the truth and the way. We have a choice. We can accept the new world order being forced on us by power hungry tyrants, or we can remind them that we see them for who and what they are, show them what we think of their lifeless, oppressive, self-serving plan and press on in the reality we know to be true.

I’m sure you’re thinking…you got all that from this funny little meme? Well, clearly I’ve been wondering what the bleep is happening, like so many others. We can stand in the truth, we can reclaim our democracy before their plans are irrecoverably set in place. Like that old tortoise we can leave our mark on their attempt to own us. Nope, I say…not today, not on my watch.

Don’t give up my friends…not now, not ever…peace, hope and glimmers to you.

Give Me Routine Any Day

There is a certain comfort to be found in routine. Like the seasons follow one another, or the sun and the moon move east to west in the sky, we can depend on routine. When chaos bursts onto the scene and life’s happenings interrupt the peace and tranquility of normalcy, I crave predictable, boring routine. There is only so much excitement a body can take.

Today was a typical Monday with an early wake up call. I don’t even need an alarm clock. My body knows the routine. After a quick walk with my pup, treats and breakfast for the critters under our roof and a handful of peanuts for the crows and bluejays outside, I pour a generous dollop of sweet cream into a mug, add an earl grey tea bag and wait for the tea kettle to sing. The hiss of the water and soft tumbling sound of bubbles bursting against the aluminum wall of the teapot is the perfect time to pause. This morning I did just that. I poured  hot water to the rim of my mug and took advantage of another moment while the tea steeped.

I waited, I breathed, I took in my surroundings…sunlight streaming through the cactus plant hanging over the sink, my dog, with her belly full of food snoring softly under the dining room table, and one of my cats purring loudly as she nudged her head into my ankles and weaved between them, wrapping her tail around my shins.

In that moment no one in my world had just died, there were no weird bird flu’s looming, and society wasn’t losing its mind.  In that routine moment, in my kitchen, on a Monday, I do believe I experienced a glimmer.

As I have mentioned over the past several weeks, there are glimmers everywhere. Even in the boring routine of a Monday morning, we don’t have to try to find glimmers. They have a way of finding us.

Peace, Steaming Earl Grey Tea with Sweet Cream, and Glimmers to you!
