day 220 ~ weekly ReVerse

our resident raccoon left his signature on a chair cushion on our back deck… he likes the peanuts we leave out for the squirrels…yes, little fellow. We see you too!
a ReVerse poem ~ 10 August 2025

there was no music playing
no reapers to sow
a thousand suns faded to black
a brood to fledge before the fall
Gabby, my dog, rolled in deer shit today
teach(ing) patience

There is nothing like a reality check to keep you balanced and grounded. I grew concerned at the trend of this week’s ReVerse poem…my favorite lines decidedly grim. Enter my little angel dog, Gabby who illustrated perfectly to me toward the end of this week how allowing the chaos and craziness of the world to stick to me is exactly like rolling in shit! And this, while all around me the wonders of the thriving natural world and the goodness of people being kind elude me, sort of.

As evidenced by the glimmers I did notice it’s clear that I gave them at least moment’s thought. It’s like lifting one’s head out of swirling, deep, rough water to catch a breath before being pulled under once again by the undertow. As if the universe hasn’t been on overtime of late throwing me safety line after line, I have fallen into a whirlpool of worry.

It took a cute little dog covered in ick to snap me out of it…and of course this week’s ReVerse retrospective to see that,  like Dorothy from Oz, I have had the power to click my heels back home all along. I had always believed that it is a rocky, winding road to get there. At least that’s what I had been told…but I am realizing home is not somewhere out there, or even over the rainbow, as lovely as that sounds. Home is inside of me. My heart and soul know the way back to center. That little voice inside is starting to break through the noise. It’s as profound and simple as that.

Much love, peace, and glimmers to you!

And in case there was any doubt, here’s a snapshot of this past week of glimmers gently screaming at me to get a life…my life to be more specific….thank you universe!

day 213 ~ a ReVerse Poem

day 113 ~ a ReVerse Poem

as ignorant blind fools sleep
along the forest edge I went
I refuse to blend into oblivion
Obviously, it’s clear as swamp water
done and kept anonymous
potted plants are not still life

~kat

Well, this week’s ReVerse will make you think. I tell myself that I should not try too hard to make sense of it. After all, it’s just six lines lifted from the poems written over the past 6 days. Six lines.

To say ‘it’s been a week’ is a loaded statement for sure. It’s been months of unbelievably insane weeks. No need to wait for the left shoe to drop…it’s been raining left shoes.

That said, hope feels like a very brave thing to do. In those moments in between hopelessness I have glimmers to keep me.  I hope you are able to embrace the glimmers in your life as well. Be assured you are not alone.

Much love and peace to you…and glimmers, especially glimmers!

day 206 Sunday’s ReVerse

Sunday ReVerse ~ 27 July 2025

a baby’s soft breath
an angel to give us hope…
eventually you’ll find you can’t believe a word they say
when the world turns dark
in the best and the worst of times
life is now
we grow complacent
listen to yourself
the greatest revolution
stars, for there were many
offer us a choice
(we) need bliss
consider your story
just because
future plagiarists repeat

~kat

Last week started with joy! A new life born. My great-granddaughter joined our growing clan to the waiting arms of a family that will love her, nurture her and celebrate her. This against a backdrop of a world in turmoil. Clearly the darkest remnants of our collective history repeating itself in a horrible, frightening way. Because I had a front row seat to the extremes of wonderful joyous news and what has become a daily assault on our humanity, it go me to thinking. As I reflected on this week’s ReVerse I wondered…

You know the saying ‘history repeats itself’? What if, because that is true we shifted our focus not on the worst of humanity…the dark history of our past, but on the triumphs, the astounding successes of this modern age, our capacity to love, show compassion and kindness? Couldn’t it, wouldn’t it be lovely if our focus shifted things and ushered in a repeating of that element of our history. The good, the heroic, the brave and triumphant stories also exist. While the doom news rarely considers it profitable to report on such things, there is nothing stopping us from retelling the inspiring stories in the hopes that they too might be repeated, and exponentially so. Just a thought. A glimmer of hope. May all of history repeat and may acts of kindness, compassion, fairness, justice and peace trump the stories our dark moments.

Much love, peace and glimmers to you!

Today’s glimmer is a meme I happened upon after writing today’s post…a new word… melorism. It’s a thing! I love it when the universe sends these little glimmers of alignment to encourage me to carry on. 🥰

day 199 ~ ReVerse Sunday – 20 July 2025

Sunday ReVerse - 20 July 2025

anything
tranquility amidst the storm
when you wake up in a cloud, a pea-soupy shroud, thinking out loud…
where fences are for leaning while talking about life and the weather…

the audacious preach virtue in ignorant bliss

it’s not luxury

~kat

A gentle reminder…take care of yourself. That seems to have been the theme of this past week. Even though things have been a little crazy these days, the best thing you can do is remember to take time for yourself. As the last line in the ReVerse says…it’s not a luxury.

I leave you today with photos of a doe and her twin fawns. They are perfect and she is an exceptional mother. This is your moment to take a few moments to breathe.

Much love, peace, and glimmers to you.

day 185 ~ a ReVerse

a ReVerse…heatwaves, oppression, and revolutionary kindness

earth barely breathing…
the rising mist that smells of musk
feels like hot breath on your skin,
I am already dreaming
the fiddler plays in the rain
as they pull the plug on a dying nation’s life support
prayers of souls, woke, cling to hope for the dawn
but it’s too late, the deed is done
it takes some effort, you know, to hate
Each of us is called to stand, to show the world we care
compassionate acts touch hard hearts one by one
sometimes reality is too great a burden to bear

~kat

When I look back over the past few weeks as recorded by each day’s poetry, thoughts, and glimmers, it is no surprise that I needed a pause to rest; to assess, to realign my priorities, and most of all to recharge. It’s been a rough time for many. It can be hard to hope and easy to feel as if resistance is futile (as the saying goes).

They…yes they…unfortunately, we are in an us and them reality now, and they would like us to believe its over. They would like us give up. They want to turn us against each other by spreading lies and  by turning up the gaslighting.

But we did not come this far with our souls intact to concede defeat now. Revolution comes at a price and requires unflinching commitment and courage. We can’t all take to the streets, but we can all be kind. We can’t all rush to the front lines, but we can help a neighbor, or a stranger. Even the simplest thing…a smile with intentional eye contact…a nod, can change someone’s world for a moment. I have witnessed it firsthand. The moment when a tiny spark ignites in someone’s eyes when they realize that you see them and they realize they are not alone.

So let us all recharge our batteries in whatever way we need to. And let this revolution commence, one spark of kindness, compassion, and glimmers of light at a time. We are all weary, but we are not alone. We have each other.

Much love, peace and glimmers of light to you!

A ReVerse poem (a practice I started many years ago) is a summary poem with a single line lifted from each entry of a collection of work over a particular timeframe and re-penned in chronological order as a new poem. Unlike a collaborative poem, the ReVerse features the words of one writer, providing a glimpse into their thoughts over time. I use it here as a review of the past several weeks.
