Robin Red Dawning

Every morning before the sun comes up, I see this fellow on my neighbor’s roof. This is a little digital painting of a photo I took of him. He is quite comical and has grown accustomed to me. Sometimes he tilts his curious head as he glances at me. I think that I would miss him were he not there. I wonder if he would miss me. I wrote a little Senryu poem about him. I consider him one of those momentary graces that wait for me to discover them each day. I’m so glad that I’m paying attention. 🙂

April Poetry Month – A Poem a Day #14

Today I’m giving the Luc Bat a go. This poetry form is Vietnamese in origin and means “six-eight.” In fact, the poem consists of alternating lines of six and eight syllables. This poem is interesting in its rhyme scheme that renews at the end of every eight-syllable line and rhymes on the sixth syllable of both lines.

Here’s a diagram of how the first few lines of luc bat poems should rhyme:
xxxxxA
xxxxxAxB
xxxxxB
xxxxxBxC
xxxxxC
xxxxxCxD
xxxxxD
xxxxxDxE

I managed a few luc bats. The rhyme sequence is a bit tricky B but once I got the hang of it I wanted to keep going! Hope you will give this one a try! 😊

Sleep Interrupted

Here at the cusp of dawn
as dark of night moves on, I sigh
half asleep, buying time
Hit the snooze, close my eyes, distressed,
Toss and turn, try to rest
And then the sun, that pest, peeks through
The day awaits anew
There’s nothing left to do but rise.

No Regrets

It’s too late to regret
a deed once done and yet we try
“A do-over!” we cry,
as if we could deny our part
It cuts us to the heart
Releasing is an art, you know
the only way to grow
choose to learn, let it go, move on.

Magnolia Dawn

but for the soft coo-cooing
wooing
of mourning dove cry
nigh
the earth is hushed
crushed
under a blanket of snow
glow
magnolia tree towers
flowers
roots burrowed deep
sleep
until spring’s first kiss
bliss.

An “Echo Verse” for Jane Dougherty’s weekly poetry challenge. The following describes this poetry form:

Echo verse goes back centuries but it has a very modern feel about it. The concept is simple—after each line there is an echo, of the last syllable (or two), or a word that rhymes. In the instructions it doesn’t say what the poem has to be about, line length, or whether there has to be any other kind of rhyme pattern.

A Red Sky Valentine’s Morning

Awash in brush strokes crimson red
Sleepy dreamers rouse at the dawn
Snuggled under layers of down
Awash in brush strokes crimson red
It is tempting to pause instead
Serenaded by sweet birdsong
Awash in brush strokes crimson red
Sleepy dreamers rouse at the dawn.

A Triolet for your Valentine’s Day. Happy warm snugly day loving the one you are with …(whispering) even if that someone is simply you! ❤️ Be sweet!

Fire and Ice

Fire and ice collide at dawn
‘Midst brittle webs of ebon lace
Nipped by blustery gusts of wind
First to behold sun’s golden face.

As Luna trips horizon’s edge
Fire and ice collide at dawn
Passage of celestial orbs
The moon and stars in denouement.

Crows cackaw and squirrels chortle,
Songbird twitterings greet the sight
Fire and ice collide at dawn
To bid adieu to black of night.

Dew drop diamond sparkles chatter
Earth is awash in morning song
Rousing all the sleepy dreamers
Fire and ice collide at dawn.
