grotto dweller – NaPoWriMo/GloPoWriMo Challenge Day 28

grotto dweller floor of peat, canopy of evergreen subtle hint of musk golden sunlight streaming here, a wide-eyed girl could dream in solitary blissfulness this place where faerie folk assembled where the muse was e’er so near I spent hours listening to whispers on the breeze bumblebees, birdsong, leaves, a-flutter, in this place my heart soared ~kat

Postcard from Here – NaPoWriMo/GloPoWriMo Challenge Day 26

(A snapshot of the gloaming from my front porch. If you can’t be here, this is the next best thing. Be sure your sound is turned on!)

Postcard from Here

how I wish that you were here
to watch the sunset with me
lull of night song in the air
under the hickory tree
we would talk for hours on end
over cups of jasmine tea
solve the world’s ills and then
retire to sleep, to dream

how I wish that you were here
to glimpse the sun’s first light
streaming through the junipers
it is such a lovely sight
with the mountains all around
scent of blossoms on the breeze
songbirds’ happy trills, the sound
of wind whistling through the trees

how I wish that you were here
to watch the sunset with me
to glimpse the sun’s first light
under the hickory tree

Off Topic – NaPoWriMo/GloPoWrMo Challenge Day 25

the night
looms black, heavy
with rain, distant flashes
of light illuminate the sky,
thunder

Off topic today for NaPoWriMo/GloPoWriMo Challenge Day 25. I did the exercise eking out an extremely long diatribe of drivel…I wrote and wrote and wrote and keep writing as instructed, but found the resulting verse rather self indulgent and verbose. It is storming tonight. I settled on a familiar form, the Cinquain, for this, the 25th day.

sweet rosaceae – NaPoWriMo/GloPoWriMo Challenge Day 24

sweet rosaceae

there beneath the juniper tree
bursting buds of berry blue,
a greening grove of blackberries’
white blossom clusters bloom
cousin of the thorny rose
ambrosia of the fae
goddess plant, its sacred fruit
fills pies on Brigid’s day
lovely, this midsummer fare
bright leaves for healing tea
berry clusters plump and sweet
there beneath the juniper tree

Quid Pro Quo – NaPoWriMo/GloPoWriMo Challenge Day 23

Quid Pro Quo

Quibbling aside, it is plain to see
Unless you’ve been living underneath a rock
In dealings with our friends and enemies
Donny T’s crime family is in hock

Promises of aid held for a favor…
Rouse investigations, tell the world
Or forfeit our assistance, overheard

Quid no pro, pro no quid, it’s hard to tell
Unwittingly or not, goods were exchanged
Our nation took a blow to its good name
