day 206 Sunday’s ReVerse

Sunday ReVerse ~ 27 July 2025

a baby’s soft breath
an angel to give us hope…
eventually you’ll find you can’t believe a word they say
when the world turns dark
in the best and the worst of times
life is now
we grow complacent
listen to yourself
the greatest revolution
stars, for there were many
offer us a choice
(we) need bliss
consider your story
just because
future plagiarists repeat

~kat

Last week started with joy! A new life born. My great-granddaughter joined our growing clan to the waiting arms of a family that will love her, nurture her and celebrate her. This against a backdrop of a world in turmoil. Clearly the darkest remnants of our collective history repeating itself in a horrible, frightening way. Because I had a front row seat to the extremes of wonderful joyous news and what has become a daily assault on our humanity, it go me to thinking. As I reflected on this week’s ReVerse I wondered…

You know the saying ‘history repeats itself’? What if, because that is true we shifted our focus not on the worst of humanity…the dark history of our past, but on the triumphs, the astounding successes of this modern age, our capacity to love, show compassion and kindness? Couldn’t it, wouldn’t it be lovely if our focus shifted things and ushered in a repeating of that element of our history. The good, the heroic, the brave and triumphant stories also exist. While the doom news rarely considers it profitable to report on such things, there is nothing stopping us from retelling the inspiring stories in the hopes that they too might be repeated, and exponentially so. Just a thought. A glimmer of hope. May all of history repeat and may acts of kindness, compassion, fairness, justice and peace trump the stories our dark moments.

Much love, peace and glimmers to you!

Today’s glimmer is a meme I happened upon after writing today’s post…a new word… melorism. It’s a thing! I love it when the universe sends these little glimmers of alignment to encourage me to carry on. 🥰

day 199 ~ ReVerse Sunday – 20 July 2025

Sunday ReVerse - 20 July 2025

anything
tranquility amidst the storm
when you wake up in a cloud, a pea-soupy shroud, thinking out loud…
where fences are for leaning while talking about life and the weather…

the audacious preach virtue in ignorant bliss

it’s not luxury

~kat

A gentle reminder…take care of yourself. That seems to have been the theme of this past week. Even though things have been a little crazy these days, the best thing you can do is remember to take time for yourself. As the last line in the ReVerse says…it’s not a luxury.

I leave you today with photos of a doe and her twin fawns. They are perfect and she is an exceptional mother. This is your moment to take a few moments to breathe.

Much love, peace, and glimmers to you.

day 192 – ReVerse Sunday, 13 July 2025

ReVerse Sunday, 13 July 2025

there is a whisper of light
survival is life
just a glimmer…

ignorance,
I won’t confuse you
is hard to believe
would they care?
lunacy ensues

sunlight shimmering through trees
when it’s our time we’ll fight to stay

I love today’s ReVerse poem! It perfectly encapsulates the past week that vividly reminded me how fragile and temporary this little life of ours is. So many incidents of loss in the midst of indescribable beauty and resilience was the theme of the week. The highs and the lows. The rollercoaster that is life where we are often holding on for dear life, trying not to lose our hats or our heads as the wind (and water) sweeps through us. Moments of quiet, of peace, of life going on, with barely enough time to look back, reminding me that the past and not even my assumptions about the future are as important as the present moment. The right here, right now, and the urgency of needing to breathe deeply as this moment settles my soul.

That was last week. Before I wish you well in the coming week, I invite you to pause with me for a moment. Take a deep breath…settle into your skin and feel your heart filling…and exhale slowly. The coming week is inevitable, but this moment is everything.

Much love, peace, and glimmers to you.

Today’s glimmer…a photo of an African Violet plant I adopted yesterday. A bit of water and feeding and it has nearly doubled in size overnight. Isn’t it amazing what a little loving tenderness and care can do! ✨💚✨

A ReVerse poem (a practice I started many years ago) is a summary poem with a single line lifted from each entry of a collection of work over a particular timeframe and re-penned in chronological order as a new poem. Unlike a collaborative poem, the ReVerse features the words of one writer, providing a glimpse into their thoughts over time. I use it here as a review of the past week.

day 171 – drama in the foothills

I need a ReVerse…can we have a do-over?!

in the deep, I am forever
(as) the dust settles
a gentle prodding
you cannot wish our souls away
wrapped in grace and trust…
insanity reigns

The natural world is not always rainbows and butterflies. But it is a just and fair cycle of life. Sometimes I get a front row seat like today.

The day started like it usually does. A perfect summer morning. A bit of a breeze, which is always fragrant this time of year. This morning I detected a hint of honeysuckle. One of my deer friends came by to say good morning, so a tossed her a bit of corn to munch on. I had some errands to run…before settling in for a little cat nap.

And that’s when I saw him, a magnificent red shouldered hawk perched a few yards away from the bird feeders. It was clear that the finches, cardinals, wrens, tits, cowbirds, and mourning doves had sent out the alarm…best to take shelter…danger from above. (Ironic, isn’t it, that humans in various locations are exercising a similar practice these very days…but for much more selfish, malevolent reasons…power, greed, and hate…but I digress…)

The hawk, though his shadow from above scattered the smaller critters here in the woods, he was not being hateful or vindictive, or even monstrous. He just had an empty belly to fill, and the felled tree trunk beneath him just happened to be home to several smaller rodent-types. Field mice and chipmunks, snakes and lizards. I know he has harvested birds on occasion…the splattering of feathers is a dead giveaway.

But today poultry was not on the menu. He was looking for a snack (I suspect this because there were 1/2 a dozen squirrels collecting seeds under the feeders, and he was not interested in the least.) I stepped away from my window seat for a few minutes and when I returned, he was gone, either bored from the blight of fresh options or he had found what he came for. To my delight all the birds had returned to the feeders, the squirrels were beneath catching the seeds that dropped to the ground. And I thought, what a lovely glimmer…life goes on.

But that was not the end of mother nature’s glimmer show today. Soon a turkey hen made her way to the feeders to pluck seeds from the ground…and to my surprise and delight she had a young chick I tow, showing it the ropes on this little acre in the foothills.

She even introduced it to the red clay hill nearby and showed it how to take a dust bath. Life does indeed go on!

One more…a video of the hen-chick spa day!

Much love, peace, and glimmers to you!

day 151

A Reverse Poem - a look back at May

trust is a powerful thing
to extinguish the darkness
destruction in its wake | survival of the richest
secrets haunt their keepers
reality has swung the sickle
chaotic
precisely because it scares me
some gave their all
flower petals and shallow roots…
roses in the air
sadly, out of tune
morning in the foothills…full of grace
and the trees…

~kat

As we start a new month it is fitting to glean the previous month’s offerings and select a line from each to develop today’s ReVerse Poem. May was a whirlwind! Things on the world stage are out of sorts with norms. Dealing with it requires more and more of us.

Much love, peace and glimmers to you.
