For Jane Dougherty’s latest poetry challenge to write a Trilonnet beginning with the opening phrase, “the light is gone…”
Struggling this week to find the Muse midst overwhelming workplace drama and our nation’s polarizing rage. I think I might need to stop watching the news and reading company memos. Ignorance is bliss!
The light is gone, there are no words
as grief’s consuming shroud descends
and swelling tears cascade like rain
The reaper’s sickle sweeps again
more innocents will meet their end,
our vain laments will go unheard
the aftermath’s familiar dirge
as liberty clouds common sense,
unanswered why’s and how’s remain,
no consolation for the pain,
resigned there’ll be no recompense
for terrorism’s bloody scourge.
A consequence of apathy,
thus doomed to repeat history.

I don’t know if you realise how apt your poem is today with the referendum in the UK about leaving or remaining in the EU. The Remains, of course, have lost.

I just heard the news from a friend. Such times we are living in! Grace and peace to you!

I did make an alarming connection. If you look at photos of Boris Johnson, Donal Trump, Marine Le Pen, the Dutch fella Wilders, there’s an uncanny similarity about their weirdly synthetic-looking blond hair.

What a beautiful cadence that poem has. And very fitting with all of today’s news. The bright spot in Brexit is that hubs says our silver stash will go up in price. Not sure if that will happen but…. xoxo

Such lovely words and phrases, and such awful news about us.
Maybe you could take phrases from the company memos to write a poem–like a blackout poem? 🙂
