one new moon night a star fell from the sky
upon a twinkling diamond dusted trail
enchanting all who gazed into her eyes
one new moon night a star fell from the sky
an angel sent from heaven in disguise
eternity in flesh, piercing the veil
one new moon night a star fell from the sky
upon a twinkling diamond dusted trail

A Triolet – ABaAabAB, capital letters representing the repeated lines with eight or ten syllables per line.

Her Shadow Looms – A Triolet

For Jane Dougherty’s poetry challenge this week. The prompts are the painting you see here by Munch and the words: winding – moonlight – follow – heavily – path. The theme is “moonlight”. I chose to do a triolet for this challenge. i was able to use all the promp words but one…follow (but it is implied…:)) To read other poems visit Jane’s blog HERE

Moonlight along the winding path
where heavily her shadow looms
leads to the place she saw him last,
moonlight along the winding path,
her dreams of love left in the past
when she was young and flowers bloomed,
moonlight along the winding path
where heavily her shadow looms.

April Poetry Month – A Poem a Day #8

Today’s form is the Triolet. I like this form because it contains a repeating refrain throughout. It gives the piece a romantic flair. The form seems simple enough. A Triolet contains 8 lines, usually written in iambic tetrameter (the common way) – 8 syllables with four metrical feet (or as I like to call them ‘Heartbeats’…da-dum da-dum da-dum dadum).  Or if you’re looking for a challenge, iambic pentameter (the English version) – as it’s name suggests (penta), this version has 10 syllables per line with five metrical feet. The Rhyme scheme is ABaAabAB (with the capital letter lines repeating – or in other words, line one repeats at line 4 and line 7 and line 2 repeats at line 8)

Of course I like a challenge! 🙂 So I tried the British version. Repetition of the lines does make it rather melancholy. Or perhaps it was the topic I chose…Poor old sap fell head over heels only to be turned away.  It’s a quite common scenario you know. Such is the drama of love…:)

Unrequited

you glowed so like a candle in the night
flashing licks of amber wooing me
like moth to flame is drawn into the light
you glowed so like a candle in the night
I tried to turn away with all my might
as I drew near, you swiftly set me free
you glowed so like a candle in the night
flashing licks of amber wooing me.

Circadian Shift

Animated Art created by Kat Myrman March 2016

I do not like this spring time change
I don’t need daylight…I need sleep
I wake up feeling quite shortchanged
I do not like this spring time change
To lose one hour just feels strange,
shifting my circadian bleeps
I do not like this spring time change
I don’t need daylight…I need sleep

A triolet (/ˈtraɪ.əlᵻt/ or US /ˌtriː.əˈleɪ/) is a stanza poem of eight lines. Its rhyme scheme is ABaAabAB and often all lines are in iambic tetrameter: the first, fourth and seventh lines are identical, as are the second and final lines, thereby making the initial and final couplets identical as well.

A Red Sky Valentine’s Morning

Awash in brush strokes crimson red
Sleepy dreamers rouse at the dawn
Snuggled under layers of down
Awash in brush strokes crimson red
It is tempting to pause instead
Serenaded by sweet birdsong
Awash in brush strokes crimson red
Sleepy dreamers rouse at the dawn.
