Losing Hope

How easily hope drifts away
When we forget to let things be
In our attempts to have our way
We only trust in what we see.

Surrender serves our spirit best.
How easily hope slips away
Each time our faith’s put to the test
And fear demands the final say.

For no amount of power play
Will ultimately bring us peace
How easily hope slips away
To know our strength we must be weak.

Religiosity’s a trap,
Faux piety can lead astray
We learn to dwell on what we lack
How easily hope slips away!

Even the Sparrows

It’s an odd place to grow sunflowers. Actually, no one really knows how they survive there, with barely a spot of earth to sustain them. But every summer they appear, a hint of green sprouts that soon spread skyward covering the retaining wall.

The birds delight in the sweet seeds, happily fluttering and chattering while nibbling.

People nicknamed this special spot along the greenway Sparrow Way. Some say it reminds them of the bible story that tells how God even provides for the sparrows, so tiny, yet worthy of tender care.

I like to visit this place when I’m facing some impossible situation. And to think. If there is a God somewhere who cares about tiny sparrows, surely there is hope for me.

Wishing you sunflowers!

(125 Words / Inspirational Fiction)

A little inspiration this week for my friend PJ who hosts this weekly challenge. It’s called Flash Fiction for the Aspiring Writer. Read other stories HERE. 😊

Heaven

heaven

I became free when I
realized that
Heaven
can’t be bought
or sold
or bargained for…
and that it is
real
and all inclusive
and accessible.
Because
Heaven
Is
Now.

Considering Merton…(a few thoughts of my own)

merton

Each moment drops a seed of life
Into the depths, past heart
and sinew to my soul…
from bitter root to fragrant flower
a garden there that bends
and groans and stretches forth
from dark to light and light to dust
with bushels full of green and lush
and memories to hold.

when you ask me to pray…this…

1509008_10201290290607147_755802712_n

no ceaseless pleas
for favors from
a deity beyond, nor
simple conversations
‘tween some small
imagined voices, nor
yearly rites of gluttony
and sport peppered
with thanks, no final
utterance, eleventh
hour recompense.

a wisp of breath
more subtle,
effortless in present
tense, embodying
the senses in a dance
of elements, where
answers aren’t the
aim and questions are
irrelevant, this is the
prayer I pray for you
with utmost reverence.
