Word of the Day Haiku Challenge 3

img_6391
This week we have Haiku inspired by two Words of the Day. Let’s take a look back at Tuesday and Friday!

Tuesday’s Word of the Day from Dictionary.com: Isonomy – noun. Equality of political rights

Your isonomy
is very important now
with elections soon.

Friday’s Word of the Day from Dictionary.com: Psittacism – noun. mechanical, repetitive, and meaningless speech.

Some psittacisms
like a Mother’s do”s and don’t’s,
haunt the guilty.

Smug bible thumpers
drone vapid psittacisms…
Actions speak louder.

Catchy talking points,
When fools use psittacisms,
There is no debate!

If you would like to join us this week, here are the rules! 😊

Word of the Day Haiku Challenge

1. Pick a day that works for you. Once you pick your day, stick to it. This is what makes it fun and quite a challenge.

2. Choose an online dictionary that features a word of the day. I use dictionary.com but there are others. Pick your go-to dictionary.

3. Create a Haiku using the word of the day. In this challenge, no synonyms allowed.

4. A Haiku is a three line poem with the syllable structures 3-5-3 or 5-7-5.

5. (Optional) If you want, you may also post a expanded history of the word, your thoughts about the word, or some unusual facts about the word of the day.

6. Post a link to your Haiku in the comments so I can find you.

7. I’ll post the weekly roll call list on Sunday. So you have until Saturday at midnight (EST) to post your haiku.

8. Have fun!

Little Girls Read

little girls read between the lines
“to gain attention play the part”
she must be pretty all the time
be nothing more than living art

to gain attention play the part
when fashionistas call the shots
be nothing more than living art
she’s valued most when she is “hot”

when fashionistas call the shots
scholarly goals are second rate
she’s valued most when she is “hot”
try as we may to educate

scholarly goals are second rate
unlike her brothers wild and free
try as we may to educate
she’ll fight for opportunities

unlike her brothers wild and free
little girls read between the lines
she’ll fight for opportunities
she must be pretty all the time

Forgive me! I blame my cynicism on this election season! Alas we are not there yet…just tapping on that elusive glass ceiling…and I fear that those longing for the good old days might be our undoing. Rant over!

Echoes of my Neighborhood

Happy Thursday! It is that time again! Time to take a look at my neighborhood! This week we had an interesting development! I remember sharing a photo of one of our neon landmarks downtown…the Dr. Pepper sign. Back then it had a few visitors…Spider-Man and the Hulk, I believe. This week Batman and Super Man are gracing the platform!

Let the epic battle commence while an unsuspecting but hopeful population sleeps!

Marion, the Fussy Librarian

There once was a fussy librarian
the kids called her mean, old Miss Marion
she demanded they whisper
quite loudly she’d blister
a high-decibeled disciplinarian!

Forgotten

tltweek6

They gathered to watch the funeral procession high above the bustling street. Whispered conversations on politics, movies, and recipes filled the space scored by piped-in ambient soft Rock. They gathered to watch the funeral procession for someone already forgotten.
