Haiku Cookie…Poetry Prompt Challenge #65 – Harp & Clear

haikucookie

Had a bit of fun with this week’s Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge from RonovanWrites. It ended up sounding very much like a Chinese Fortune Cookie saying.  So here is it “Ronovan-san”…my Haiku for this week! 🙂 I, for one am thrilled that my brain took this challenge out of the large game and farm animal category. Have a good week everyone! 🙂

Instead of harping,
elucidate the fine points
or you’ll clear the room.

Sunday Week in Review – 4 October 2015

It is time again to reflect on the past week. A week drenched in tropical downpours and oceans of tears…a week of innocence lost and lives ended too soon…a week set in the afterglow of a blood moon eclipse.

As I do every week, lifting a verse from each post, one would expect the randomness of each line to be a mismatch of disconnected thoughts, but as often is true, they somehow intertwine to present a coherent review. This week surprised me again in heart-rending poignancy…

A life too soon stilled
an exercise in simplicity
the eclipsing moon-glow swells
to oppose tides of group think…They risked everything for a dream
It wasn’t always so
“I leave all my worldly possessions…”
brain unhinged, delirious
that never ends well
a touch of rebellion…
For all I hear
and all I know
is that the gate
is set to close.
a million tiny deaths…

We can hope for a better next week, lulled by the promise of silver linings. As for me, a simple break in the clouds…a bit of sunlit cerulean peeking through…is enough to energize me, burning off any weariness I might carry from this past week. With that, as another week approaches, I shall set my heart on seeking the light. 😊

beautiful release

autumnleaves

when nights stretch long and
winds grow chill, her sacrificial
rite begins, the tender tease
of each lush leaf, to blush from
frost-flutter kisses plunging
to a stunning denouement…
a million tiny deaths sweetly
released to dance on breezes,
gently sinking, soon consumed.

would that I could learn
to let go just as gracefully,
in vulnerable, abandon
to embrace the tingling thrill
of nakedness for all to see
to shed all vain encumbrances,
to emulate an autumn tree,
I might at long last know
the bliss of being truly free.

When Words Are Doubly Meaningless

clock
Once when accompanying a loved one for moral support, to remember the things she might not hear or choose to forget, I’m afraid I failed miserably…

Terminal was all I heard,
his droning blabber
bouncing off the sterile
white-washed walls.

My mind drifted to
bustling rail and plane
depots transporting
travelers to wild
exotic ports of call.

How could a word
so off course be,
its careless shift
from adjective to
noun and back again?

An inconvenient detour
promises a gentler
passage we’re assured…
and thus advised to follow
every sign while winding
through these unfamiliar veins…

Terminal you say?
Last call,
departure time
is imminent.
For all I hear
and all I know
is that the gate
is set to close.

Being a Teenager – A Friday Fictioneer’s Short

PHOTO CREDIT – © Marie Gail Stratford

Marla was the perfect child. She learned as a youngster to follow the rules. There were many. And to keep things spotless in her parent’s sparkling white-washed home. Her mother was very particular about decor. Fine clean lines. Sleek straight edges. Bright colors and patterns were out of the question! White with only shades of gray or black allowed, for contrast.

Years passed uneventfully, as one might expect in a rigid colorless home. But Marla was a teenager now, and as teenagers do, felt a bit naughty when she picked up a new wireless mouse for her computer. As she removed it from the box and placed it on the desk with a satisfied smile on her lips, she wondered if anyone would notice, secretly hoping that they would.

What, after all, is the point of being a teenager without a touch of rebellion!
