Tell Me Who You Are

Tell Me Who You Are

tell me who you are
not what you are; that’s just an illusion
tell me who you are
with beautiful words, show me your heart
identifiers just cause confusion
and labels to presumptive conclusions
tell me who you are

apocalypse

‘I would that the Boar without bristles had come from the West
And had rooted the sun and moon and stars out of the sky’
—W.B. Yeats

apocalypse

when the world ends
it won’t matter who was wrong, who was right
when the world ends
and nothing’s left to fight for, or defend
will bitterness darken our path to the light
when the world ends

A Rondelet* for Jane Dougherty’s ‘A Month With Yeats: Day Twenty-Eight’ Poetry Challenge inspired by Yeats’ poem, ‘He Mourns for the Change That Has Come Upon Him And His Beloved, And Longs For The End Of The World’.

*The Rondelet is a French form consisting of a single septet with two rhymes and one refrain: AbAabbA. The capital letters are the refrains, or repeats. The refrain is written in tetra-syllabic or dimeter and the other lines are twice as long – octasyllabic or tetrameter.

The Narcissist

Day One of Jane Dougherty’s November Yeats Challenge. Today based on these lines:
“they will ride the North when the ger-eagle flies,
With heavy whitening wings, and a heart fallen cold:” —W. B. Yeats

A bit of research revealed that “ger-eagles” in Yeat’s day was a term used to describe vultures. It was also a term decades later attributed to Hitler’s Order of the German Eagle during WWII. The vulture theme certainly applies, which made me think of another type of vulture who preys on the weak in our times. Well, at least in my humble opinion, it seems to fit. History repeats itself.

The Narcissist

only a narcissist
tweets arrogant blurbs with his tiny fat fingers,
only a narcissist
rallies vile throngs, which are Yuge as he insists,
reeking of smut and glut while poverty lingers,
blaming all his ills on witch-hunting left wingers,
only a narcissist

Little Things – NoPoWriMo 2017 #4

Little Things

it’s the little things
forget the forest, I want to hug trees
it’s the little things
like collecting pebbles, now that’s my bling
or blowing white floaties setting them free
it doesn’t take much to entertain me
it’s the little things

Teddy Bear

I see your heart
your gentle smile; your tender touch
I see your heart
though your tough act is off the charts
I know the truth, you care too much
that mask you wear is just a crutch
I see your heart
