day 361

it’s not safe
.
but
fight the urge to
hide…
that is what they want
to terrify us into silence
please don’t
stop fighting for the truth
there is such a thing
even if
they say truth is dead

~kat

It would be so easy to hide away in my house in the foothills. The world has become a scary place. But I am sure that is exactly what DT and his minions want….to terrify us in order to silence us all into submission.

As tempting as it is, I know that I need to resist the urge to hide from the world. This world needs each one of us to shine the light of kindness, compassion, and truth. We need each other now more than ever.

Fear is what got us here. We can do better. Never forget.

day 344

An odd glimmer…unless you know the story behind the photo.
being kind
.
life
is hard sometimes
things
can change overnight
and in those times of adversity
we learn
the truth I of who we are
the simplest kind acts
can heal us
compassion through pain

~kat

Some of you know that the past several years have challenged my family more than we could have imagined. My wife suffered a debilitating illness as a result of medical mistakes, resulting in loss of income and most heartbreaking, the end of a career she loved. Ironically, as a healthcare progressional herself, the treatment errors have felt like a betrayal, only adding to the trauma. I have watched her fight for her life from the abyss of depression, remembering who she is and finding new ways to be. She deals with daily unrelenting pain, and has to navigate the world on wheels now, and yet she is kind. Every Friday she loads herself into her truck, fitted to allow her to drive, and volunteers at a wildlife rescue center.

Life can change in an instant. But we can choose to meet challenges with grace, determination, and kindness.

much love, peace, and glimmers to you.

day 343

cut flowers
.
in
winter whisper
sweet
nothings to my soul
scent of roses infusing the air
a gift
to brighten cold gray days
stirring gratefulness
for friendship
and new memories

~kat

I had a surprise delivery today. It was a holiday gift from my boss. A beautiful bouquet of cut flowers. It truly brightened my day. Made me feel appreciated and seen. Not even the rain could dampen my spirits. The fragrance of roses, carnations, lily of the valley, sweet pea, and daisies filled my room with sweetness.  Of course it is today’s glimmer.

Much love, peace and sweet glimmers to you.

day 342

rating whores
.
the
polluted air
waves
are spilling into
dens and living rooms everywhere
the great
(in his own mind only)
D. T. has nothing
Important
to say…la la la

not listening here…silence is bliss

~kat

Welp…I heard that there was a presidential address this evening. My house is silent right now. I refuse to be counted as someone who watched or listened to his lies and vile blather. Ratings are something DT covets. I will not be tuning in. Nothing to see here…It’s little things I do to resist what is happening in our country.

And speaking of little things…here are a few hand crafted glimmers… wall and home decorations. Creating a glimmer to enjoy doesn’t make it inferior to glimmers that happen spontaneously in nature. All glimmers are worthy of a pause. Do you have a favorite thing that brings you joy? Happy Glimmers to you,

Much love, peace, and glimmers to you!

day 340

seeing red
.
blue
red-infused sky
dawns
in the aftermath
of relentless news of hateful acts
empty
thoughts and prayers rise like ash
with barely a spark
to keep from
turning the sky gray

~kat

Sorry to have missed posting a glimmer yesterday. I hope you were able to find a few of your own. The incessant news from over the weekend… murders, school shootings, anti-Semitic terror attacks and mass murder across the globe, and our leader in this country showing what a vile monster he is in the aftermath set me back a bit. I had no words.

I woke this morning to a beautiful sunrise, barely making it outside in time to capture it before the sky faded to gray.  That’s kind of how today’s poem emerged.

The thing is, I did manage to take a photo. It showed me that there are glimmers to be found even in the darkest times. It feels odd to celebrate them, to celebrate anything, but celebrate we must. We can’t let evil and fear shut us down. Enter glimmers, brief though they may be, to remind us.

Much love, peace, and glimmers to you.
