I’ve spent the evening wrestling with senseless words…too many words…tonight’s simple haiku will have to do. At the very least I have managed to be present. That’s something. That’s a pretty big something.
gentle visitors emerge from the trees at dusk grace before a storm

There is another s snow event heading our way. They name snow storms now you know. This one is named Kingston. He is carrying a ton of snow to our region. At least that’s the best guess of meteorologists.
The name Kingston is old English and means simply, “the king’s town”. And a thought occurred to me and made me smile. We don’t have a king here. Not here in these foothills…not in this state…not in this country. Not yet anyway. But right here, right now, I have visitors who happened by. Graceful, beautiful souls to remind me to go gently into this night. Come snow by dawn or not, Kingston is just passing through and spring is coming. Most surely, spring is in the wings.

It has become an obsession. The only way I can survive these uncertain times is through mindfulness and basically, simply, remembering to breathe. All any of us truly has assured is the present moment. It is available to me every moment. When I pause the noise in my head, focus on the moment and my breath, it is a calming reminder that I am okay in the right here and now. In fact I am so okay that the beauty around me, birdsong, all good things, my loved ones, the blessings that color this gift of life that I live, all these things have a moment to cover me in grace. Remember to breathe.

Today’s verse is brought to you by the “villanelle”. Read more about this form below!
Villanelle
When you’ve got an obsession or another intense fixation, write about it in a villanelle. The villanelle is a poetic form that originated in France, initially as a variation of pastoral poetry. Villanelles are specifically about obsessions and follow a strict form:
