late summer encounter
I spied a lovely doe today
she held my gaze, then leapt away
into the brush deep in the hollow
I fought the urge to rush and follow
to think I’m kind would not be safe
we humans are a cruel race
I kept my distance glad to see
her intuition made her flee
run free sweet forest sprite run free
it’s best to fear the likes of me
as hunters plan their autumn sacks
be swift, stay safe, and don’t look back

Such beautiful almost magical animals… How can humans be so evil as to hunt them 💜💜💜

I know Willow. We have loads of them. Every year this time I say a little prayer for them and hope they make it through Autumn and Winter to greet Spring!

we have them here too but not in great numbers, sadly they have built so many houses here that their natural pathways and trails had disappeared and they have to cross roads and go through gardens …poor creatures 💜

So beautiful Kat. My Mum loved deer and we took her to a place where they had a deer enclosure. She was enthralled and held her breath when one came close enough to almost touch Hubby’s hand. The moment (and deer) was lost thanks to two ignorant women talking loudly as they opened the gate and slammed it shut.

They are such resilient animals Di, while at the same time exuding grace and beauty. I do love that they frequently wander through my yard. It’s especially exciting in late spring when they bring their fawns with them! 🥰

Oh how lovely Kat! You are so blessed to see them at such close quarters. We have small muntjac deer come in our road sometimes, they are so cute. I was out walking Maya and thought it was a loose dog until I realised. She was fascinated and watched as I stopped to give it some space so as not to frighten it.

Life has gotten busy…but I do try to hop on every now and again when the muse moves me to words 😉

It was so wonderful to live in the part of the Rockie Mountains where it was illegal to hunt such beauties. I just cannot fathom recreational hunting… just can’t.

It was…it always is when they stop for a moment to make eye contact. We have a dozen or so in our little corner of the woods. That are so beautiful!
