Sounds foreboding… I actually hung up some wind chimes yesterday in my dead garden, lol. In preparation for enjoying them when the flowers are blooming. 🙂

I meant for it to be foreboding. Wind is not my friend in a neighborhood of ancient trees and shallow roots! We’ve had several downed mammoths and it seems that February is the worst month for it. I’m sure your flower garden will be delightful come Spring!!! 😊

After I posted I checked out our weather forecast. Winds up to 51 mph this weekend! 😮

Wind chimes have always appealed to me but in Indonesia wind chimes in front of a house also indicate the resident has a connection to the spirit world. That same resident might work as a psychic, fortune teller, necromancer, or at some personal variation of spiritualism designed to increase income.
What is very cool (imho) are the birdcages in front of houses that don’t have windchimes. Almost every house in my neighborhood has at least one birdcage hanging just outside the front entrance, each cage might have 1-4 birds. They are taken inside at night and during rainstorms (every day for six months each year).
Other than the good feeling I get when passing through the bird lined paths leading to a street I use to go to work, I feel amazed that people value the birds so much that they are willing to part with hard-earned income to buy them. This country, Indonesia, has a country-wide average income of under USD 400 per month but people still have time for their birds.

That is so interesting. Is there a symbolic reason for the birds in cages in front of the homes, other than a love of birds of course?

I haven’t yet been able to get to the level of Indonesian that I can ask. It is on my “next thing to ask” list with my Indonesian teacher. Meanwhile, I’ll enjoy the “music.”
