Shi Sai Sunday’s Week in ReVerse – 3 December 2017

Well. Weird week. Electronics locked in trunks (a coworker), iPhones dipping into the loo (mine), some missed favorite challenges (I’ll get back on track in the coming week) and Mercury in retrograde, enhanced by the undertow of a super full moon tonight. Is it any wonder I am feeling a bit kerfluffled (my spell check doesn’t like that word, but I do. I made it up…so I’m going with it!)

It helps to have a sense of humor on weeks like this. It also helps to be a glass half full, look on the bright side, eternally optimistic attitude. All is not lost.

I actually had a bit of unencumbered peace while I was phoneless. It helped me recall a simpler time, before mobile phones, before texts, voicemail, and answering machines when we relied on landline phones and if you weren’t home to take a call…folks just had to try you later.

It made me reminiscent for a fresh college-ruled notebook and my peacock-blue, cartridge-loaded fountain pen; the thrill I always feel when that first bulging droplet bleeds onto a page…for words scribbled on used envelopes and paper napkins, so I wouldn’t forget a moment’s brilliance.

Writing is not tied to a means or method but it is a way of living and looking at the world, with a keen discerning eye primed to capture the next revelation or reflection. It is breath and life to those of us who are weavers of words. How fortunate we are to have a forum to share our thoughts and imaginings.

Have a wonderful week. Don’t stop writing!

Shi Sai Sunday’s Week in ReVerse – 3 December 2017

may we rise from heavy slumber
bundled in bunting
what I long for these days
and tell you (I) would, except,
when the world ends
women have found their voice to tell,
determined, but not heartless.
what peaceful thoughts I might have had are doomed.
there is no sleeping
on some wild paths
in happy ever always
in the dark,
what we have lost
tossed by a cool breeze…
extravagate in that thought

A shi sai or ReVerse poem is a summary poem with a single line lifted from each entry of a collection of work over a particular timeframe and re-penned in chronological order as a new poem. Unlike a collaborative poem, the shi sai features the words of one writer, providing a glimpse into their thoughts over time. I use it as a review of the previous week.

Shi Sai Sunday’s Week in ReVerse – 26 November 2017

I am so relieved and inspired by the way this week’s ReVerse came out. The holidays are emotionally charged for so many people. Here in the U.S. we celebrated Thanksgiving. Divisions were magnified by empty places at tables and broken relationships even more than recent year’s past in this polarized time.

But it is the Sunday after Thanksgiving. I am still here…we are still here. I survived…we are survivors all.

How can I be anything but grateful for the blessings in my life. It may not be perfect, but I am blessed nonetheless, by love, by a roof over my head, food to eat, a job to sustain me.

I will keep hoping for more. I will always hope…for mended relationships, for happy reunions. It’s human to do as much. But in the meantime I have enough…and that is enough.

Shi Sai Sunday’s Week in ReVerse – 26 November 2017

those of us who have lost hope in praying,
we are not promised
nothing to lose
we rage against eternity
I need you to play your part
you can do anything / with those tiny hands
and watch the darkness slip away
a spark of recognition
I have danced on tiptoes through bristled sedge groves
deeply grateful
it is worth the wait
Luna’s empty crescent cup dangling
their memories are like ashes
rise before dawn to mingle
the in between
my favorite moments
things I can’t remember
let the dawn burn into day
but you should know,
measure life’s seasons
When Swinging was Jive
apparently, collecting fine things runs in the family
the most important thing is that you are here
over the broken mess we made

Shi Sai Sunday’s Week in ReVerse – 12 November 2017

With every sensational soundbite, those who are paying too close attention (I am all to easily sucked in…guilty as charged) are reeling from the downward spiral of our uncivil civilization. I happen to have an American front row seat, but from your comments; you my friends across the pond, and from the north, south and east, this current state of unrest seems to be global. With nuclear options being flexed and monsters being exposed, I have even heard the “A” word mumbled under pundits baited breaths. “A” for apocalypse…oh my!

But I’m not buying it. And, well, if I’m wrong….that’s okay. I can deal with being wrong especially since there won’t be anyone around to say “I told you so…” Why am I not buying it? Not yet? There is still enough good in the world to hold this implosion at bay. Patriarchy is going down. Hate is being exposed for the ugly blight that it is. And we are starting to believe the women…and the innocents when they point at the emperor declaring that he is buck naked. He’s always been naked. I know it’s a shock, but that’s how truth rolls.

At any rate, the bad guys will still try to distract us from the truth, blame the victims, call monsters heroes. I don’t expect them to go down without a fight. But they are clearly desperate. That’s a good sign.

I know you’re weary. But we’re in the final stretch it seems to me. The apocalypse may be coming, but for a chosen few. I expect to be standing when the smoke settles.

Peace, truth, love…resist! ❤️

Shi Sai Sunday’s Week in ReVerse – 29 October 2017

When…I’m old enough…I get that promotion…I’ve saved a bit more money…I lose weight…the kids finish school…the stars align…the light turns green…the time is right…I get that job…I retire…I finally get that degree…I’ve proven myself…the coast is clear…I’ve got nothing to lose…I have more time…I get lucky…I’m ready…tomorrow comes…

Excuses, excuses! Dreams have a way of slipping away. Because life…and excuses. Life scribbles nonsense on our beautiful clean slate when we are young. We forget, we give up, we settle.

But dreams don’t die generally. They’re still in there. It’s never too late. Dreams realized don’t necessarily need to come with the fame and fortune of our youthful idealized aspirations.

Sometimes all it takes is a willingness to just do that thing you dreamed of. Sing if you’ve always wanted to sing…alone…in the shower..in the car. Take that class, not with that piece of paper at the end in mind, but for the joy of learning. Cook like a gourmet. Travel…even if it’s to the town next door. Experience it’s hidden treasures. Every place has them. Paint, take beautiful photographs, learn to fly! And if you’re like me be a writer. Fill journals, notebooks or a blog, with beautiful words; even if no one reads them but you. It will change your life. It is life…beautiful…hovering…waiting to be lived!

Have a wonderful week of dreams realized. You deserve it!

she’s in there somewhere

breath of life, thick

not silly…look
rouged red, lipstick-stained teeth,
longing to be touched
impenetrable
so tell me, who’s smarter?
when will this end?
this dark night of souls
embracing all of life
beautiful life hovering

Shi Sai Sunday’s Week in ReVerse – 22 October 2017

Happy Sunday…it is still Sunday. Busy morning, dogs to the groomers, and then a nap. I love naps. Some people tell me they can’t sleep during the day. That is not me. I love a good midday slip between cool sheets with a fan moving cool air over me and my pup snuggled up close. It’s something, I have convinced myself, that I do for me. It’s a guilty pleasure, like a square of “Dove’s” dark chocolate chilled to perfection in the freezer, or flipping up the radio to 11 on the drive home from work.

It doesn’t take much to amuse me. Which is a good thing. Normally I use this space to reflect on what the posts from the previous seven days are telling me about where my brain was during the week.

But I’m not in the mood to rehash the latest, greatest hits and misses of the world that inspired my rambling last week. Not today. I’ll let the lines and (something new this week) photos tell the story.

As for my me. I’m feeling fab. Just had a nap and there is a tiny, frosty square of love calling my name. Sometimes you just have to let the world tend to itself for a while.

Peace out! 💗
