Shattering Tradition – A Three Line Tale

It was fashioned of brushed brass, clicking cogs, and black dials and numbers set on an ivory face, a treasure passed from generation to generation, to the eldest son, as was customary in their family.

But because the current generation had produced no male heirs, the family’s patriarch had arranged for the pocket watch to be locked in a vault for safe keeping until the next male progeny was born…except…this was the 21st Century and there were three daughters waiting in the wings.

Members of the family petitioned the old man to consider the eldest of the three, an accomplished, intelligent young woman, to be the next owner of the watch, and he, after careful consideration and a twinkle in his eye as he gazed intently into hers, exclaimed, “Well hell, why not!” embracing his favorite girl sealing the deal; and a dusty old tradition was shattered by an antique, just like that!

How Many Cherries…

Johnny and three friends, Tom, Julia and Matthew went to the cherry grove on Tuesday.

If they left Julia’s house for the cherry grove at 2:15 pm, driving 50 miles at 70 miles per hour, in a vintage VW van with daisies and peace signs painted on the frame, how high would the cherries need to be to be too high in the trees for Johnny and his cherry-picking friends to pick?

Solution: My head just exploded!

For some reason when I saw this photo I thought of those insane word problems in math class. There is a reason I am an artist! You lost me at Johnny and three friends! This Three Line Tale is for Sonya at Only 100 Words based on this photo by Inma Ibáñez.

Fahrenheit

It would be impossible after this week to dismiss global warming, with temperatures surging over 150 degrees Fahrenheit.

Tim managed to escape the blazing forest into the clearing where rescuers waited, but the sticky oil infused blacktop coated his shoes, bursting spontaneously into flames just as Tim secured himself in the rescue harness to begin his ascent to the hovering helicopter.

While everyone watched in horror, Tim kicked his feet frantically, finally freeing his feet from his shoes as they plummeted like fireballs to the ground below.

Crop Circles

“This will show those pranksters to stop messing with my fields,” said farmer Dudley as he mowed down the crop circles.

“They’d like nothing more than for me to freak out and report the “incident” to the police and the news so they can make a laughing stock out of me, but I won’t give them the satisfaction of falling for their joke.”

“Yep, the joke’ll be on them,” he mumbled to himself, as an eerie silence hung in the air and he remembered he was alone and all the townsfolk were gone.
