Whose Truth?

Whose Truth?

Most folks you ask will tell you
what they believe to be true
but what’s a truth seeker to do
when truth is skewed by believing?

Catching up this morning while spending another day in a hospital waiting room…hoping. I couldn’t wrap my tongue around the words swirling in my head yesterday. ‘Twas not a good day. It’s time to turn the page on this chapter of our story. Hoping this is the first day in that breakthrough turnaround we’re hoping for…peace out 😊 (there may be a few more poems today. I have several hours to kill!)

The Ovi is a lyrical folk song form with one or more stanzas with the rhyme scheme AAAb; CCCd: EEEf, etc, with 8 or fewer syllables per line. Themes for the Ovi include love, social irony or heroic events.

insomnia

insomnia

my much meter is tripping too
no time for rest; too much to do
and when night falls I’m up past two
I’d dream of sleep, if only

what bitter karma did I sow
to reap this misery, this slow
slow drip, struggle is all I know
I heard the good die young

well, if that’s true I’m past my prime
I’ve had enough of this lifetime
I just want sleep, is that a crime?
the cow jumped over the moon

The koolaid served was very strong
lulling sleepy fools along
to them, their guy could do no wrong
but the truth will set them free.

At least I can hope. Stepping of the nature path I’ve been on of late to write about the long awaited glimmer of the potential of justice. I’m hesitant to breathe just yet, but the US headline this evening is good news for those of us who care about democracy and the rule of law. I may not be able to breathe just yet but I could be heard squeaking out a “yeah!”…oh alright it was a big YEAH! Finally. But tentatively hopeful the news of today makes a difference. Time will tell. The clock is ticking.

Grandma Hugs

Grandma Hugs

I’ve settled softly into my skin
it’s been a while since I was thin
and when I smile I wear a double chin
but I’m just right for grandma hugs!

Inspired by the Ovi, a lyrical folk song form with one or more stanzas with the rhyme scheme AAAb; CCCd: EEEf, etc, with 8 or fewer syllables per line. ( I bent the rules a bit on that last point, but I followed the rules for rhyme!) Themes for the Ovi include love, social irony or heroic events.

ReVerse Poem – 30 July 2023

Sunset in the Bramlett Mountain Foothills after a summer storm. ~kat 2023

Today’s ReVerse poem is an interesting mix. It speaks to me of the spark of spirituality the resides at my core. That spark has seen many iterations in the 67 years I’ve spent seeking, not seeking, devoted, zealous, indifferent, terrified, enraptured, feeling small, so very small.

She called me home a few years ago, to a tiny house in the woods surrounded by mountains, woodland creatures, seasons, life, death, all of it, life cycling around me in a green blur.

I didn’t like it at first, letting go of decades of dust collecting trinkets and treasures that I thought I needed, that I thought defined me, that I thought gave me meaning. Turns out it was all rubbish. Turns out, all I needed was to come home to the Mother who birthed me and has sustained me all these years…who loved me enough to let me fly knowing I’d return one day. Full circle to my Mother the Earth. I see you…I feel you…I am…you. 💚

ReVerse Poem - 30 July 2023

history can’t repeat itself
taking care what matters
i am part of it all
i’ll hold you at the brink
sunset after the storm
in harmony with the
whispers to fledgling ears

A ReVerse poem (a practice I started many years ago) is a summary poem with a single line lifted from each entry of a collection of work over a particular timeframe and re-penned in chronological order as a new poem. Unlike a collaborative poem, the ReVerse features the words of one writer, providing a glimpse into their thoughts over time.
