day 156-157-158…a few more glimmers on the fly

meanwhile in California

for a brief window
inside a bubble of joy
we celebrated the creation
of a new family, rejoicing 
in the “I do’s”, we danced,
and we ate cake, embraced
by family bonds of love

meanwhile, 
just down the mountain 
in the shadow of love
the aspirations of hate
unfolded on brutal display
in the name of law and order -
beautiful families targeted,
laws broken, not by the people, 
but by an unlawful government 
that seeks to erase anything 
“other”, to assuage the fragile
ego of a deeply flawed, little man

it did not go unnoticed by me 
as I watched people peacefully 
assembling to say “no more”, 
“not in our name”, not in my name
two worlds, a fault line divided, 
love, joy, peace vs. hate, cruelty, fear 
i was there when it happened,
and now I am home declaring
I will always choose love
I will always side with truth
and justice…true justice

it was a beautiful brief bubble
a wedding, family, celebration
but bubbles burst and 
when they do, we wake up
may we remember 
love prevails
love will always prevail
