Day One of Jane Dougherty’s November Yeats Challenge. Today based on these lines:
“they will ride the North when the ger-eagle flies,
With heavy whitening wings, and a heart fallen cold:” —W. B. Yeats
A bit of research revealed that “ger-eagles” in Yeat’s day was a term used to describe vultures. It was also a term decades later attributed to Hitler’s Order of the German Eagle during WWII. The vulture theme certainly applies, which made me think of another type of vulture who preys on the weak in our times. Well, at least in my humble opinion, it seems to fit. History repeats itself.

The Narcissist
only a narcissist
tweets arrogant blurbs with his tiny fat fingers,
only a narcissist
rallies vile throngs, which are Yuge as he insists,
reeking of smut and glut while poverty lingers,
blaming all his ills on witch-hunting left wingers,
only a narcissist
-kat
A Rondolet is a French form consisting of a single septet with two rhymes and one refrain: AbAabbA.The refrain line should be half the number of syllables of the other lines.

There is such a load of vile scumminess being dug up at the moment I’m beginning to think you elected the right president after all. No one better to preside over such a rat pack. Great poem, Kat 🙂

Talk about draining the swamp! Mueller is my hero! Right up there with Superman. 🙂 Thanks Jane.

I think Mueller’s going to find that draining the swamp is the thirteenth labour of Hercules, the one he gave up on…

It is sure to be epic. Those of us counting on him only hope he reigns them in before the country crumbles completely.

It’s certainly exciting. Hollywood is just the tip of the iceberg. Every culture on every continent is built on male domination and, in many cases, oppression. The weeding out that has to be done needs napalm not gloves and a hand trowel!

Speaking of Hollywood and male domination, watched the movie Wonder Woman over the weekend. Great chick empowering flick! 🙂

I haven’t seen it, but I’m not a fan of comic book heroes. I always wonder if the men in the story would follow the super woman heroine if she wore a normal quantity of clothing, was unattractive and had tiny boobs. In Hollywood as in most places, my guess is she’d just get cat calls.

To be honest, I enjoyed the “Extra” material on the Bluray more than the movie. We watched at home now that video is out. Very empowering and uplifting.

Two of mine watched it and one thought it was empowering, as you describe, but the other one wasn’t convinced. It’s true that women need to be at the centre of things more often, but in a way that’s taken for granted, not because it’s exceptional. That though is going to take a looooong time.

You’ve nailed the poisonous diatribe and empty soul so well. It is rather scary though, wondering when the darkness will clear…

“A bit of research revealed that “ger-eagles” in Yeat’s day was a term used to describe vultures.” – learnt something new today.
Your post is most appropriate for the time we live in.
