the browning season

cool kisses at dawn
hints of amber, cloves and cinnamon,
cool kisses at dawn
as days rush to dusk and nights amble long,
scamperers gather, cicadas drone on,
earth’s final fruits clinging low, reaper comes,
cool kisses at dawn

(A Rondelet)

The Rondelet is a French form consisting of a single septet with two rhymes and one refrain: AbAabbA. The capital letters are the refrains, or repeats. The refrain is written in tetra-syllabic or dimeter and the other lines are twice as long – octasyllabic or tetrameter.

Naked Tree

Dearest Tree,
I watch you cling
to the last leaves of
summer as cold
Autumn gusts
abruptly
undress you. But
I must say, nakedness
becomes you.

Autumn Rose

She’s a late bloomer,
Lured by Autumn’s frosty nip,
Cool passion in red.

beautiful release

autumnleaves

when nights stretch long and
winds grow chill, her sacrificial
rite begins, the tender tease
of each lush leaf, to blush from
frost-flutter kisses plunging
to a stunning denouement…
a million tiny deaths sweetly
released to dance on breezes,
gently sinking, soon consumed.

would that I could learn
to let go just as gracefully,
in vulnerable, abandon
to embrace the tingling thrill
of nakedness for all to see
to shed all vain encumbrances,
to emulate an autumn tree,
I might at long last know
the bliss of being truly free.

ode to autumn

autumnleaves

twirl me on the cooling breeze
toss my hair with feathered kiss,
gaze at me through smoky haze
of embers warm and luminous.
lay me down on sodden beds
where the veil is ever thin,
pungent, fragrant gold-red death
pale moon glow upon my skin.
season of my heart and soul
faithful, grace-filled, ever true
meet me for our yearly tryst
here beneath the harvest moon.
