selfish jerks!

I’m disappointed, furious…horrified by my country’s response to COVID-19! Our leaders act like it’s an inconvenience. That ignoring it will just make it go away. They refuse to take responsibility, to model behavior that will help slow the spread; they refuse to accept science and the recommendations of experts. Meanwhile the country’s numbers of new cases are rising, the rest of the world is shutting their doors to us. I don’t blame you. The US is a horrible place to live right now. UGH. UGH. UGH. Anyhow…just getting this off my chest. Poetry is therapy you know…. Hope you are staying safe and for goodness sake, wear a mask and keep your distance when you leave your house. SMH!!

selfish jerks!

your heartlessness is on display
when you refuse to wear a mask
your heartlessness is on display

‘cause nobody should need to ask
it should be common courtesy
when you refuse to wear a mask

claiming your right to liberty
it shows you’re just a selfish jerk
it should be common courtesy

yet you don’t care who you might hurt
you’ve death and sickness on your head
it shows you’re just a selfish jerk

it’s stupid, you could slow the spread
your heartlessness is on display
you’ve death and sickness on your head
your heartlessness is on display

Today’s poetry form is called a Terzanelle:

The Terzanelle is a poetry type which is a combination of the villanelle and the terza rima forms. It is a 19-line poem consisting of five interlocking triplets/tercets plus a concluding quatrain in which the first and third lines of the first triplet appear as refrains. The middle line of each triplet is repeated, reappearing as the last line of the succeeding triplet with the exception of the center line of the next-to-the-last stanza which appears in the quatrain. The rhyme and refrain scheme for the triplets is as follows:

1. A
2. B
3. A

4. b
5. C
6. B

7. c
8. D
9. C

10. d
11. E
12. D

13. e
14. F
15. E

Ending Type 1:

16. f
17. A
18. F
19. A

Ending Type 2:

16. f
17. F
18. A
19. A

Each line of the poem should be the same metrical length.

Good poem Kat, and I agree with you. It’s the same here and only going to get worse at the weekend. We are dreading it as holidaymakers will descend on us, throw caution to the wind, no social distancing, no masks, and have no respect for the residents. We shall be avoiding the main High Street and other people even more than ever.
I just don’t understand them or their attitude. It’s not going to go away.
    Keep safe and well Kat.

Please keep yourself safe as well Di. I have been to places where I am the only one masked and people walking by snicker and roll their eyes at me. It’s crazy!

Us too, so we smile, even though they don’t see it, and think ‘daft sods’. We don’t care if people think we’re daft, we are trying to protect ourselves as best we can from idiots who can’t see the woods for the trees.

I’m pretty sure the States have you all beat! We’re in another surge with the Independence Day holiday coming this weekend. All the jerks will be out! I won’t! Staying close to home where it’s safe! You keep yourself healthy and safe!

Selfish jerks is right! I have been berated several times by strangers in my town for wearing a mask! Yes, wearing a mask!
One day, I was adjusting my mask to enter a business (which is mandatory in my state), and a woman stopped her car across the street from me and yelled, “Take off that mask. Fresh air won’t kill you.” I yelled back, “Yes, but the corona virus can.” Then, being the grump I am, I added “Do you want me to come over and cough in your car!” At point she started driving again, allowing the traffic to flow.
I read that in Texas, wearing a mask means you are anti-Trump. I am wearing three, then, and putting on a fourth of the fourth!
Thanks for this. I need nudging to write anything, let alone some thing “creative” and “inspired” like you do.
    Stay safe. We need “jerk-proofing”!

Sheesh! People are so selfish! Keep staying safe Lorraine! My state is seeing a surge in rural areas due to people who brought it back from vacation. Stupid people! I hate that being respectful and staying safe has become a political statement. It shouldn’t be! It’s a GLOBAL pandemic for goodness sake! I’m glad you got to vent a little here. You’re not alone.
